Got an old guitar you don’t want?
p2pnet news view | P2P:- If you have an old guitar you don’t want any more, there are kids and their teachers who’ll definitely find a use for it
But it doesn’t have to be a guitar. It can also be a banjo, fiddle, flute, sax, trumpet, or anything else.
As long as it’ll hold a tune, it’ll be used.
In 2006 my late friend Bill Evans, wrote, “we’re no longer seeing New Orleans on the news every day and we tend to forget about it.”
But, “there are still needs we in particular can help with.”
Musical instruments used by local schools were destroyed when hurricanes swept through the region, devastating it, and Bill, who hailed from Roanoke, Virginia, and others decided to do what they could do to fill the vacuum.
Bill Hudson was another of Evans’ friends and he and others who believe music should be a major part of children’s lives started collecting musical instruments.
They’ve been at it for a while, now, and they plan head down to the Gulf next month.
“We want to have 100 instruments to take down with us this September to bring to the kids as they come back to school after their summer break,” Hudson says on the Instruments for the Kids site, going on:
“As we get the instruments, the Guitar Meter will indicate how we are doing on our drive. We need everyone’s help in getting these instruments together.
“We are working to organize drop off locations where you can bring instruments, or we have an address (Send them to Al’s House!) where you can mail them or send them UPS or whatever. If we can, we will try to pick them up from you personally.
“If you can, please take a picture of yourself holding the instrument, and send it to us, either with the instrument or thruogh email so that we can keep track of who gave instruments.”
On the page, “After 12 trips and over 175 instruments we are still finding a strong need in the schools,” says Hudson, continuing »»»
We now have 5 schools we have adopted. Below are some of the quotes from the schools we have adopted.
“Last year, you and your wonderful group of friends surprised us at St. Tammany Junior High with two generous donation trips. Our students were excited over the additional “much needed” instruments that you provided. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you once again for your support during a most difficult time”
“I am a native Texan and lost my home as a result of Hurricane Rita, you may find the feeling of gratitude that the thousands of Louisiana Katrina victims would extend to you. You touched so many lives in such a positive way. Thank you!”
“Hello! My name is Brian and I am the Chorus teacher at St. Tammany Junior High in Slidell, La. I am extremely grateful for the guitars that you have donated to us.”
And thanks to the many folks who have given their instruments to the schools in the Gulf coast
There’s a collecting centre at the 35th Annual Clearwater Festival, NJ, on August 16-17. For more information, please call 732- 872- 9644
For now, check the attic and see if you have an old instrument lying around and if you do, contact Bill Hudson at billhuds @ gmail dot com to find out how you can get it to him.
Cheers! And thanks …

Thanks Jon!
Its a funny thing, I was at a gig and the owner of a music store came to me and gave me his card and he told me to give him a call. So the very next day I did.
What I did not know was that he had so many instruments that I could not fit all of them in the car. This trip he donated 21 instruments, one never knows so thanks.
