RIM settles with Wi-LAN

p2pnet news view | Products:- Ottawa technology licencing company Wi-LAN says it’s settled a patent dispute with Blackberry creator RIM (Research in Motion).

Wi-LAN said that RIM agreed to pay licence royalties on wireless patents, raising the total new deals to 12 this quarter, says the Ottawa Citizen, going on:

“It now has 34 companies under contract while it prepares for legal battles in a Texas court with many other industry players.

“Wi-LAN said that it will drop RIM from the pending litigation as a result of the settlement.”

The total number of wireless licensees signed to date is 34, says the Ottawa Business Journal, also pointing out Wi-LAN signed licence agreements for its V-chip patents with 12 companies, ringing the total number of V-chip licensees signed to 94.

Terms we’ren’t disclosed.
