China’s face is red over Olympics fake

p2pnet news view | Politics:- China has already lost tremendous face over a huge scandal in which a child billions of people around the world thought was singing the country’s national anthem at the opening of the Beijing Olympics turned out to be nothing but a fake.

And China’s face is equally red over another Chinese ‘illusion’.

People watching the Olympics online and on TV gasped in awe when fireworks exploded in a display which looked like huge footprints in the sky.

“The 29 footprints were lit at one footprint per second, with 29 of them marching from Tiananmen Square to the Birds Nest stadium,” says
Beijing Olympics 2008.

“They were supposed to symbolize the path of the 29th Olympiad and their arrival to Beijing.”

However, “supposed to” was the operative phrase because although the fireworks were lit, “what people saw on television was a computer generated sequence,” says the story, stating »»»

Only the last footprint in the stadium was actually filmed by camera, the rest were slotted in at the right moment.

The head of the visual effects department for the opening ceremony said since everyone thought it was filmed live, “he couldn’t see a problem with it,” says the post.

An all-time low for the Olympics. What next? CGI Olympic contestants, perhaps?

It was obvious that the Olympics was not “live”, due to the fact that the “live” recording was done at 11PM in the USA, which would’ve been 11AM in China. China looked rather dark for being 11AM.

  2. Rekrul Says:

I love it! China keeps doing things calculated to impress the rest of the world and they keep failing miserably. They kept dragging their feet over allowing uncensored access to the internet after they promised that it would be done, they choose a different girl to lip-sync the anthem because they think she looks better for their country, they fake a fireworks display. It’s like watching the three stooges…

  3. ninjadude Says:

This is the stupidest of stories. If people had cared to notice, the network DID say it was computer generated. The only “red” face is those who failed to listen to the broadcast.

  4. Reader's Write Says:

This chinese governement is just a big pile of BS!

  5. Reader's Write Says:

The child did not sing China national anthem. The China national anthem was sung during the flag raising ceremony. I don’t have any problem if they used CGI on the footprint fireworks, considering it was hard to film without CGI(I doubt western countries would be able to pull it without CGI either), and the other fireworks except those footprints are NOT fake. So stop disputing about these small matters, it will only show the jealousy of western countries towards China.

  6. Dude From Finland Says:

RW said “So stop disputing about these small matters, it will only show the jealousy of western countries towards China.”

Jealousy? I don’t think anyone is jealous about a country that has been caught with it’s hand deep in the cookie jar. Besides what is the point of making CGI for a live broadcast? To impress people? Then don’t get caught because now the letdown is just that much bigger.
    First impression: WOW cool.
    Next impression: WTF?
And then onwards from that is: Is it even real?

  7. Johnnyg0 Says:

So what if its computer generated? You guys don’t seem to understand that every country would’ve done the same, EVERYONE wants their Olympic ceremony to look the best, and will use every tools available to achieve it.

… now what about every action movie created?.. do you complain about them too?..

  8. chicken Says:

    WOW FOR THE LAST TIME

IT WASN’T A LIVE BROADCAST IN USA and probably not live in some other countries.
Also, do u guys know how hard it is for fireworks to look good on video?

  9. Budi Says:

Dude said “Besides what is the point of making CGI for a live broadcast? To impress people?”

I agree with Johnnyg0 for the answer.

  10. Reader's Write Says:

    @ chicken

so it was not alive in the us. that makes it ok? and who cares how hard it was?

  11. Jon Says:

    @ Johnnyg0

“You guys don’t seem to understand that every country would’ve done the same”

The Winter Olympics won’t be far from where I live in British Columbia, Canada, and there may even be computer generated imaging to flash things up.

But if that’s the case, I’m pretty sure it’ll be right up front.

    Cheers!

  12. Dude From Finland Says:

    @ Budi
Sure go ahead and use CGI but please tell me about it. I don’t care how it was done and if it looked cool, just be upfront about what you are doing. China doesn’t excatly have a track record for being honest about their countries happenings anyhow and somwhow they always seem to get caught red handed.

    @ Johnnyg0
No I don’t complain about CGI in movies (unless it sucks) but I know that when I’m watching a movie it is fiction.

Fuck it… some people like it some don’t. It’s all done now so I’ll leave it be.

  13. Reader's Write Says:

They don’t always get caught. There government is iron fisted and brutal (just ask the buddhists or anyone who descents). This olympics is a bought and paid for advertisement for this bloody communist dictatorship with a history of lies and human opression. Atheletes aside this olympics are a farce and a black mark on international relations.

  14. tithe Says:

So…… let’s ditch the Olympics idea and we can all go have a few beers and pizza!

Considering everyone seems to be taking the Olympics for granted these days.
    Why bother, then?

Would it be any better if the US hosted it instead?

Cuz, you know, the West is totally > the East.

Smarten up, people. Just take it as is and enjoy the Olympics. They’re meant to stand for world peace and simple pleasures. Like fun, games, and friendship?

Where’d all the hippies go?? D=
