Rare Beatles tune goes for $20,604
p2pnet news view | Music:- A man in Montréal, Canada, who paid well over $20,000 for a Beatles song isn’t crying. He’s laughing.
Gino Olivieri runs Premier Muzik International which, says the Canwest News Service, recovers royalties for recording artists.
A 1964 recording of the Fab Four covering Don’t Put Me Down Like This by American soul singer Derek Martin (right) was discovered by a man in northern England.
A half-hour reel-to-reel tape captures The Beatles, “singing and joking around,” says the story.
The tape, recorded for the BBC program Top Gear, features 11 songs, and the BBC has another part of the same session, says Canwest, adding:
“At one point, John Lennon and Paul McCartney can be heard laughing uncontrollably as they try to sing I’ll Follow the Sun.”
Did Martin get a copyright payment for the tune, one wonders?
Or is he on the infamous unSoundExchange list?
Meanwhile, Olivieri paid $20,604 for the tape, offered online by Cameo Auctioneers.
