Picture not too rosy for Net video ads
p2pnet news view | Advertising:- Bad news for people hoping to make their fortunes from online video advertising.
Or is it?
eMarketer estimates US spending at $505 million in 2008 against earlier estimates of $1.35 billion, says the Associated Press.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean online video advertising is a lost cause.
“If the saying ‘advertisers follow eyeballs’ is still true for one medium, it is online video,” says eMarketer, going on:
“More than one-half of the US population now watches online video, and eMarketer predicts there will be 190 million online video viewers in the US in 2012.
“At that point nearly nine out of 10 Internet users will be watching online video.”
Says the Boston Herald:
“Many advertisers realized the economy was getting worse only after they had committed to buying spots for TV shows that start in September, said Steve Kerho, a vice president at the San Francisco ad agency Organic Inc. Those ads are typically bought in May and June.
“Because they can’t get out of those deals without losing money, many advertisers are cutting online spending instead, Kerho said.”
