Mr Rhythm & Blues, Jerry Wexler, dies
p2pnet news view | Music:- Jerry Wexler, “legendary record man, music producer and ageless hipster,” as Rolling Stone describes him, died today at the age of 91.
“He coined the term ‘Rhythm & Blues’, and was integral in signing and/or producing many of the biggest acts of the last 50 years, including Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Led Zeppelin, Wilson Pickett, Dusty Springfield, and Bob Dylan,” says the Wikiepedia.
As co-head of Atlantic Records from 1953 to ‘75, he and his partner Ahmet Ertegun grew the then independent R&B label into the major record company that it is today, says Rolling Stone, adding:
“In the ’70s, Wexler departed Atlantic and went freelance, producing soundtracks for films by Louis Malle and Richard Pryor, and recording albums with Bob Dylan, Dire Straits, and Etta James and others.”
