Take Pirate Bay Olympics posts down!: IOC
p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- Video clips from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games posted on The Pirate Bay must be taken down, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is telling Swedish minister of justice Beatrice Ask.
Can this mean MediaSentry, hired by China’s Communist leaders to guard and protect the country’s live and on-demand online video footage, is falling down on the job?
Owned by Safenet, the company is proving to be a disaster for Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony BMG’s RIAA, which has been using it as a kind of unlicensed ‘private eye investigator’.
Now, the IOC wants Sweden to, “help remove Olympic torrents from The Pirate Bay - which they claimed have been downloaded more than 1 million times,” says TorrentFreak, going on
“IOC also wants the government to assist in preventing (!) clips from the Olympics closing ceremonies to be shared.”
Tsk tsk.
Isn’t that supposed to be MediaSentry’s job?
Or are videos originating on Chinese networks safe as houses and only clips from the CBC, BBC, and so on, are showing up on TPB?
Unlikely.
Meanwhile, it’s significant that interesting suggestions for deposition questions to be posed to MediaSentry, as raised by David Donahue, remained unanswered.
Stay tuned.

I thought the Olympics were for the world to enjoy?
How can they copyright something that belongs to everyone?
August 19th, 2008 at 9:43 am
It does not belong to everyone, because Olympic now is riddled with bribes, selling away “rights”, awarding games to countries like China and the like. Also, it is not only competition of athletes, but the competition of pharmacists around the world: when a “medicine” becomes available and affordable to too many countries, it is declared as “doping” and pharmacists move on to a new “medicine”.
IOC is not legitimate organization, it should be banned from conducting olympics and stripped of all its trademarks.

The Pirate Bay does not have any servers in Sweden. And in any case, torrent
trackers do not host any actual content.
I heard they renamed the site Beijing Bay to poke fun at the IOC.
