Facebook dumps Scrabulous (except in India)
p2pnet news view | Games:- Facebook has succumbed to entreaties from Mattel to take Scrabulous offline.
Jayant Agarwalla, one of the geme’s creators, says he’s, “disappointed with Facebook,” says The Hindu.
“It is even more astonishing that Facebook, which claims to be fair and neutral party, took the step even though they were fully aware of the circumstances under which the Mattel letter was sent,” he says in the story.
Scrabulous is now officially down everywhere except in India, its home.
“Proving you can’t keep a good game down, especially where the Net is concerned, Scrabble spell-alike Scrabulous is back – sort of,” said p2pnet last month, going on:
“Created by brothers Rajat and Jayant Agarwalla from India, it was hot on Facebook until joint Scrabble owners Mattel and Hasbro claimed Scrabulous infringed their copyright and demanded it be taken down.”
Nothing loathe, the Agarwallas came up with Wordscraper, the, “only game on Facebook that allows you to play the game the way you want to!”
Meanwhile, “Rather than waiting for the Agarwallas to remove Scrabulous from other countries in response to Mattel’s demand, Facebook decided to do that on its own,” says the Mercury News.
“The game was left on Facebook’s site in India, where a lawsuit Mattel has filed over Scrabulous is pending.”
