Listeriosis — a long way from being over
p2pnet news view | Off Topic:- Expect more sandwiches and other products with meat that, “came from a Maple Leaf plant at the centre of an ongoing listeriosis outbreak” to be recalled as investigators use “further precision” to discover where the meat ended up, the Canadian Press has officials declaring.
“Warnings that the very young, the elderly, pregnant women and those with compromised immune systems are particularly at risk appeared Saturday in newspapers across the country – some 10 days after the first death was reported,” says the story, going on:
“The ad provided advice on safely handling food, and advised checking a government list of recalled products.”
As p2pnet posted during the week, “experts fear the worst is yet to come. The condition can remain dormant for very long periods.”
Symptoms, which include high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea, “occur up to 70 days after consuming contaminated food, though the average incubation period is 30 days,” says the CBC.
Under Listeria Investigation and Recall, Health Canada is publishing a detailed list of recalled products, saying it’ll be, “updated as required with the most accurate information possible,” and going on:
“All affected products can be identified by the Establishment number that appears on the packages. The products made at this facility bear Establishment number (Est) 97B. The Establishment number is located near the Best Before or Packed On dates.
‘If the original product identity and Best Before code is not evident, you are advised to check with your retailer or supplier to determine if the product is affected.”
Ready-to-eat deli meats recalled yesteday include products sold from some of the Co-op Atlantic stores in Atlantic provinces, Magdalen Islands of Quebec, says Health Canada.
Others include sausages sold at Country Traditions, Taste of Country, and Country Farm Supply stores in Ontario, it says.
