Chrome? Meh
p2pnet news view | Products:- Well, “I downloaded Chrome and so far IT ROCKS!,” says ‘…’ in a Reader’s Write.
But, “Google Chrome’s password manager failed more tests than any other browser I’ve tried,” states Chapin Information Services’ Robert Chapin in a Reader’s Write.
In case you missed it yesterday, that’s Google’s answer to Firefox and Internet Explorer.
“It downloads fast, installed easily, imported my bookmarks, and has such a clutter-free streamlined viewing area (user interface) that I wonder why other browsers have so much clutter,” according to ‘…’. “I’ve only found small bugs, minor inconveniences, so far but will give it a real whirl after a while. Oh, and no spyware either … the jury is still out on whether or not they have included ads in the actual browser code or just leaving that for the webpages being viewed. Sure hope AdBlocker comes out with a Google Chrome plugin version soon! (oops, did I type that? Bad bad, supposed to THINK that part…)”
The jury is out on ads? Not for long, IMHO
“Meh,” says Nogard, “just tried Chrome and went back straight to Firefox.
“Seriously, until/unless Chrome develops an add-on architecture like Firefox has, Microsoft has more to fear than Mozilla, since the niches are much more similar. My girlfriend who stubbornly preferred IE to Firefox for reasons I can’t fully comprehend, apparently is going to switch to Chrome in a heartbeat.
“Admittedly, she is significantly geekier than the average computer-illiterate, but with Google’s reaching power, adoption could easily soar.”
Did I try it? Yup. And I’m with Nogard, although on first blush the ‘incognito windows’ with, “Pages you view in this window won’t appear in your browser history or search history, and they won’t leave other traces, like cookies, on your computer after you close the incognito windows,” is interesting.
But this is nothing new. The click of a button tells Firefox to automatically dump cookies when you close it down. And that’s been a feature forever.
Plus the fact where Google is concerned, nothing is incognito.
Overall, as Nogard says, Meh.
So I uninstalled it, which, ironically, took me to an Microsoft IE page with a bunch of questions such as, “I am not unhappy – I am going to reinstall soon” (unlikely
) and, “I prefer another browser. Please select one Internet Explorer Firefox Opera Safari Other.”
The coup de grâce?
From Chapin, “I’m looking forward to testing a release candidate. I won’t even dignify this beta with my own press release.”

not happy with it either. wont let me scroll up. plus I want to customize my browser by MY choice, i dont want it to learn, i want to teach it. opera can be taught. with chrome you have to wait till it figures everything out.

^^ And of course ‘learning’ means collecting all kinds of data on what you do, where you do it, and so on, with all that implies.
Cheers!
