Oprah Winfrey stars in US Summer Olympics bid
p2pnet news view | TV:- With the China Olympic spectacle out of the way, and the Canadian Winter games and the Summer event in London, England, yet come, America is nonetheless already hoping to host the 2016 Summer Olympics, with Chicago chosen as the would-be venue.
Up front for the moment is Oprah Winfrey whose season premiere of her TV show will feature gold medalists Michael Phelps, Kobe Bryant and Nastia Liukin, as well as 150 other members of the US team.
It’s slated to be taped in Chicago’s Millennium Park today and over the weekend, “Some who sought tickets slept in their cars,” says the Chicago Tribune. “Others arrived at 6 a.m. They brought coffee and folding chairs. The hungry munched on granola bars. One woman turned vigilante and scouted for people cutting in line.
And, “All were waiting for a woman in a pink Winfrey T-shirt to hand them a red wristband to get them into Wednesday’s taping.”
The taping, “is a boon for Chicago’s Olympic bid efforts,” says the Chicago Sun-Times, adding:
“While the show is seen in 130 markets in the United States, with an estimated audience of 21 million viewers a week, it also airs in 107 other countries. Many members of the International Olympic Committee live in countries where Winfrey’s show airs.”
