Sony recalls 73,000 Vaio notebooks
p2pnet news view | Products:- Deeply troubled Sony has been beset by more flaming (potentially) computer problems.
Owners of some 73,000 Sony Vaio TZ-series notebooks should “should stop using” them immediately and contact Sony, says the company.
It admits it’s received 15 reports of overheating, “including one consumer who suffered a minor burn”.
That’s because the norebooks might have a, “manufacturing defect that can cause a short circuit and overheating”.
In 2007 Sony was forced to recall millions of batteries in a disaster which hit major notebook manufacturers everywhere.
Now, “Irregularly positioned wires near the computer’s hinge and/or a dislodged screw inside the hinge can cause a short circuit and overheating. This poses a burn hazard to consumers,” says Sony, adding:
“The recalled notebook computer models are the VAIO VGN-TZ100 series, VGN-TZ200 series, VGN-TZ300 series and VGN-TZ2000 series. The computers’ screen size is about 11.1” measured diagonally.”
In November last year, “Sony, assailed on all fronts by poor product sales, accusations of bribery, dangerous laptop batteries and the rootkit spyware scandal, among other things, has been fined in another embroglio — price-fixing,” said p2pnet, going on
“Sony and Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and BMG, the other members of the organised music cartel, have already been named and nailed for price-fixing.
“And in March, came the news that European Union regulators were charging several companies, among them Sony Corp, with running a cartel to fix the price of professional video tape used for television,”
“Now the European Commission has imposed fines totaling €75 million ($110 million) on Sony Corp, Fujifilm Holdings Corp and Hitachi Maxell Ltd for fixing prices in the European professional-videotape market, says the Wall Street Journal.”
