Another John McCain copyright violation
p2pnet news view Music | Politics:- “Last week, right before Republican presidential candidate John McCain introduced the world to his running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, in Dayton, Ohio, he strutted out to the sounds of Van Halen’s ‘Right Now’,” says MTV, going on:
“A few hours later, Van Halen’s publicist told MTV News that the POTUS hopeful was never granted permission to use the track, and had permission been sought, it would never have been granted.”
Look familiar?
“McCain seriously upset Paris Hilton by comparing Barak Obama to her (and to Britney Spears),” said a recent p2pnet post, going on »»»
But no worries because all that happened was Paris produced a hilarious spoof that’s been viewed millions of times and is still going strong. It must be doing wonders for McCain’s image. Now Jackson Browne is suing him for copyright infringement and as the world knows, Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony BMG’s RIAA is completely impartial when it comes to suing people for copyright infringement.
Doesn’t matter who they are —- unless they’re Warner boss Edgar Bronfman jr’s children, of course. They get off with a lecture on bright lines.
Anyway, it seems McCain is a rebel. He’s already incurred the wrath of, appropriately, Warner by improperly using the company’s Frankie Valli hit, Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You, in a campaign ad.
Now Jackson Browne is suing McCain for using Browne’s 1978 ‘Running on Empty’ in an anti Barak Barack Obama TV ad.
Now McCain has upset the Hearts.
“Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign,” says TMZ, going on:
“Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic ‘Barracuda’ as a theme song for Sarah Palin. TMZ obtained a statement from Heart’s rep, who says ‘The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission.’
“The statement goes on: ‘We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored’.”
Sung to the tune of “When will they ever learn? When will they eeeeeeever learn?”

Nice to see the politicians are getting a little taste of what they have created with all the mishmash of copyright laws. They are getting to see first hand just what a PNA it is. There isn’t anything like first hand experience in dealing with this.
However in another article I read dealing with this topic, it appears the McCain camp did indeed purchase the right to use the Barracuda song. This particular instance, the Heart sisters don’t wish their music to be associated with the McCain campaign. The other song writer involved with the creation of the song is fine with it’s use and proud that it is being played. I take it from the context I read that the Heart sisters may not be McCain supporters. Since they have purchased the right to use the song, I believe the DMCA request will go no where. It does show where once again, the artists are second class citizens at best in the major labels eyes.

I didnt think most artists even own the rights to the songs. Most of the labels own the rights and they can use them for whatever they want. Some musicians will sing a song that wasnt even writen by them, they just perform it. And if an organization like the Republican party or other organizations pay a monthly fee to SOCAN or ASCAP for playing music at conventions or other eventsc an artists still tell them not to play their music??
It would be like a band or musician getting offended by their song being played at a strip club while someone is stripping onstage to their song. They still pay a fee to the artists.
Im really sick and tired of famous people promoting a certain canadiate and using their media persona as a way to try to influence people who should really decide for themselves.

Entertainers are “background noise” at best. They never build anything, develop anything, invent anything, cure anything or fix anyghing. They just hoard wealth and look down on those who have “earned” similar wealth. Why can’t they just crawl back into their drug-induced lair?

Keep talking entertainers your just making yourself more irrevalent every day
