France may sue Scientiology cult for fraud
p2pnet news view | Freedom:- The Cult of Scientology and seven top members will stand trial in Paris on fraud charges, says the Associated Press.
A former member says the church swindled her out of more than $28,000 in charges stemming from a 1998 complaint.
She joined the CoS after she being recruited at a subway station, says AP, adding:
“The woman, 33 at the time, invested thousands of mostly borrowed euros in Scientology courses and so-called purification packs containing vitamins and other pills.”
France doesn’t officially recognize the cult as a religion, says TransWorldNews, rather, “they consider it a commercial operation.
According to reports, the case could be brought before the court by the end of 2009, it says, noting it counts Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Lisa Marie Presley, Jason Lee, Kirstie Alley, and Kelly Preston as members.
Germany’s domestic intelligence agency is preparing a dossier on Scientology’s activities with a view to banning it in 2009 on the grounds it’s unconstitutional.
Meanwhile, just to keep the pot boiling, it’s also trying to scam YouTube.
