Joy (and advertising) to the world!

p2pnet news view | Advertising:- Google has joined forces with cable TV magnate John Malone and HSBC to set up O3b Networks to channel the Net —- and endless streams of advertising and other developed world goodies —- at three billion people in Africa and “other emerging markets” – via 16 low-earth orbit satellites.

The Financial Times has Larry Alder, product manager in Google’s alternative access group, saying, “This really fits into Google’s mission [to extend internet use] around the developing world.”

O3b, with its headquarters in Jersey, the Channel Islands tax haven, “will focus on signing up communications operators, including clients of HSBC, in emerging markets across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East,” says the story.

“It could also supply satellite dishes in more developed markets such as Mexico, where bandwidth remains expensive in rural areas, Mr Alder said.”

Great they can feed the mind while the body starves. I am sure those that are having a hard time getting food, two days in a row or longer will really be happy to hear they can get on line. I wonder who is going to address the buying of the computer and software to take advantage of this?

I am positive the anti-infringement forces are just jumping up and down at the new method that will be available to spread files around, for those able to afford it. Maybe we will start hearing of people in Africa being sued that have no computer, eh?
