OneWebDay: less than 2 weeks off
p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- It’s September 10 already. And that means OneWebDay is now less than two weeks away.
“What exactly is OneWebDay?” – p2pnet wrote back in June, going on »»»
It’s a wonderful way to focus on the Net as the world’s most powerful means of communication.
But there are forces which would would like to subjugate it, bringing it under their total and exclusive control.
Not, though, if Susan Crawford and the people supporting her and the OneWebDay movement can help it, we said.
Because, she says, “Every September 22 is an Earth Day for the internet.”
“It’s a day to celebrate, educate, and activate – do good works and raise consciousness about the threats to the internet around the world.”
Now, “If you’re holding a public event, online or offline, now is the time to pull together the details and get the word out,” say the organisers, going on
There have been great new communications from Greece, Copenhagen, Oxford UK, Kiev, Cincinnati, Cleveland, San Francisco, and Philadelphia since I last wrote to you. Take a look at the wiki and the OWD blog to find out more.
The Melbourne AU event continues to look like An Event – quite exciting.
In New York City, John Perry Barlow will be in town and will be speaking at the event in Washington Square – and we have many more details about the workshops, demo, and party to be held on Saturday 9/20. Go here
The Obama and McCain campaigns have both been contacted to send speakers and otherwise acknowledge the day, particularly in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Philadelphia, and Washington DC. Op-eds by several different people are planned for release on OneWebDay. Thanks to Anne Singer for a great deal of work on the national press front.
We are looking for information from the Freedom from Fear movement (using OWD as a planning day for enormous demonstrations to be held on the 11th of October) as to what they do on OneWebDay.
Please tag pictures and tweets/blog posts with #OWD2008. Webcast information that we would like you to use is here: http://www.onewebday.org/base/index.php/Webcast.
We’re trying to make sure we can see one another, and the best way to do that is through these free services. We will pull material together and feature it on the onewebday.org site. for details:.
Is there something you’d like to know. Contact questions@onewebday.org.
