Android: Google a-for-ad-Phone
p2pnet news view Advertising | Mobiles:- Woweee. Another phone. Even if Google is calling it a Dream Phone, the implication being if it doesn’t knock the socks off iPhone, well ………
“Google provided a glimpse of its Android operating system running on a mobile phone for the first time in Europe on Tuesday, in a limited viewing ahead of its imminent launch,” says the IDG News Service, going on:
“The device looked similar to HTC’s Dream, rumored to be the first device that will have the OS, although bits of masking tape obscured any branding. T-Mobile’s London office said Tuesday it is committed to launching an Android phone by the end of the year.
“Mike Jennings, a development advocate for Android, pulled the phone from his pocket during a presentation at Google Developer Day, a one-day training workshop on Google’s tools and products.”
Part of Tuesday’s “teaser preview” is to “pique the interest of mobile developers to build momentum around Android, which enters a heated mobile market with competitors Symbian, Microsoft and Apple,” says the story, pointing out in awe:
“Apple’s iPhone has been propelled to popularity in part by its applications store. Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS has at least 18,000 applications written by third-party application developers and Symbian has a wide array of applications.”
Enter Google with Android, a, “software platform and operating system for mobile devices based on the Linux operating system developed by Google and later the Open Handset Alliance,” says the Wikipedia, adding:
“It allows developers to write managed code in a Java-like language that utilizes Google-developed Java libraries, but does not support programs developed in native code.”
For tonight only, wings are ………
Guess what? – asked a recent p2pnet story about an IDC study. “Mobile phones are primarily used as —- mobile phones. In other words, people mainly use them for talking to each other.”
Another p2pnet post says student-researchers were wondering how other students saw current and future uses of the cell phone. So they ran a survey —- and, “Guess what? Mobile phones are primarily used as — mobile phones. In other words, people mainly use them for talking to each other.”
But could it be that for Google, there’s more to it than meets the ear?
The company gave some of the YouTube partners a demo of the Android, says a hilarious YouTube video.
Says the guy, one of the people who’s been given an Android to try out and who’s talking to another demo partner, “I like it but the only thing I’m not crazy about is the uh —–”
And his call is interrupted by an advertising message: “Don’t forget. For tonight only, wings are ………”
What’s that they say about many a true word is spoken in jest?
Suspicious of Google’s intentionsoff
Meanwhile, “In a bid to force its near dominance of cyber-space advertising into the world of mobile phone platforms, Google is now waving $10 million at developers,” p2pnet posted last November, going on, “Last week it announced it and 33 other firms were collaborating on what’s being called the Android Open Handset Alliance Project.”
But mobile software engineers in Korea were wondering what Google really had in mind, said the story, adding: ”In fact, they’re showing, ‘lukewarm attitudes toward Google’s newly announced mobile phone platform,’ says the Korea Times, going on »»»
The news spread fast to major software developers’ communities and forums on Web sites. Some of them were excited, but most remained suspicious of Google’s intentions. South Korea has one of the largest pools of mobile software engineers, thanks to the presence of big phone manufacturers Samsung, LG and Pantech.
“I read the terms and conditions of the Android. I think Google is playing with us, and their slogan `’don’t be evil’ is just words,” said a user called ‘feanor’ on KLDP.org, the largest online forum of open source software developers in Korea. “My understanding of this document is this: if it does not bring money to us (Google), we will revoke the license at any time.”
“I suspect that Google is not a company that will let people do whatever they want,” said another user named Kwon.
Stay tuned.

I believe that one can count on Google to do whatever makes the most money for Google. Everything else is just noise (or turbulence).
