McAfee shock-horror Brad Pitt report

p2pnet news view P2P | Security:- Brad Pitt and Justin Timberlake are the most dangerous men online, with Beyoncé and Heidi Montag holding the same distinction for women.

That’s what McAfee says, anyway.

It’s released its second annual list of the “riskiest celebrities” on the Internet saying Pitt has overtaken Paris Hilton as the, “most dangerous celeb to search for,” says the Toronto Star.

McAfee, a, “company which seems to spend as much time coming up with creative data interpretation as it does safeguarding our computers,” suggests 18% of searches on Brad Pitt, “led to malware infested websites,” observes techradar.com, going on:

“Cue a media frenzy which doesn’t really explain that ‘potentially’ dangerous doesn’t mean your computer will immediately seize up whenever Brad Pitt is googled.”

Anti-virus and security companies routinely pump out  custom-made scare reports in the hope of frightening the gullible into buying ‘product’.

But Brad Pitt isn’t alone in being singled out to promote McAfee stuff —- whether he likes it or not.

The same thing happened to p2pnet.

No! Really!

And as an example of just how efficient McAfee is, it lists p2pnet as located in the US when in fact our luxurious central HQ is in a tiny village on Vancouver Island, BC, in Canada. Duh!

“Why not bring this subject up with a lawyer and sue McAffee for defamation and so forth?” - suggested p2pnet reader few bux in a comment post to my story McAfee targets p2pnet. Again.

I said »»»

Biggie ’security’ company McAfee is implying p2pnet is a dodgy site with spyware and malpractice downloads, and it [McAfee] is doing so to promote its [McAfee’s] so-called SiteAdvisor ’service’.

Nor is this the first time. The company made exactly the same accusations last year.

“You know how it works,” I responded to few bux. “Lawyers cost lots of money and I don’t have any.”

No! This isnt a spoof.

And No! I haven’t given up. ;)

Meanwhile, to make sure it doesn’t miss any bets in its tacky promo, it also ropes in Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Cameron Diaz, George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, Katie Holmes and Katherine Heigl; singers Mariah Carey, Rihanna and Fergie; and soccer star David Beckham as “dangerous”.

The real danger is that someone might take McAfee seriously

Definitely stay tuned.
