Nexicom anti-P2P, anti-pirate automatic

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- “Copyright holders have a new weapon at their disposal with word that Nexicon, a Malibu, CA-based anti-piracy services and technology company, has developed an automated copyright infringement identification and settlement system,” says Zeropaid, going on:

“Set to debut perhaps as early as next week, the service will allow copyright holders to examine some 19.6 billion file transmissions from the likes of such P2P and file-sharing services as BitTorrent, eDonkey, Gnutella, Ares, KaZaA, and newsgroups each day.”

Pow! Pow! KaaaZAP! Whammy!

Scummy RIAA / MPAA effort

getamnesty.com. hmmm. Probably promoting on- and offline freedom, I thought to myself a little over a year ago, going on “Boy was I wrong »»»

Because the ‘amnesty’ site has absolutely nothing to do freedom. Rather, it’s another of those scummy RIAA / MPAA efforts which tries to trick people into handing over information about themselves to the entertainment cartels.

Far from being an amnesty offer, it’s a self-incrimination site identical to the one Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG`s RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) use to scam American university students into handing over information about themselves which the RIAA might use against them at some later date.

Getamnesty.com is, “designed to satisfy the needs of the rights holder to recover some of their losses due to copyright infringement, and to offer the infringing party a way to settle with the rights holder before more costly litigation ensues and to avoid possible criminal prosecution,” says the site.

Enter the genyuine garanteed, solid gold, MARC pirate eradication system (drum roll).

“At last, a solution for copyright holders to fight piracy and collect revenue lost from illegal downloads,” it promises.

“The GetAmnesty program provides a way for users who have illegally downloaded copyrighted files to ’settle’ with the copyright owner by paying a nominal fee each downloaded file. For copyright holders, GetAmnesty at last turns piracy into profits.”

Love the way they put ’settle’ in quotes. That probably signifies, correctly, it’s nothing but a euphemism for ‘extort’.

“Nexicon’s collection products (GetAmnesty and DigitalRanger) leverage the MARC platform to collect settlement fees from the downloaders, and help investigate and enforce copyright laws that support content owners,” says the company.

Digital Ranger. Better than Media Sentry, do you think?

It’s, “driven by Nexicon’s MARC Anti-Piracy platform which monitors the Internet for illegal downloads, analyzes infringement data, reports on copyright infringements, and collects settlement fees from known copyright violators,” it says, also stating, “MARC’s artificial intelligence, extensive algorithms, and Automated Human Visual Verification (AHVV) help ensure for an extremely high rate of accuracy.”

Artificial intelligence. No kidding.

No need to stay tuned,  unless you’ re looking for a laugh, of course.

PS -  Did we mention Nexicon used to peddle cigarettes for a living?

(Thanks, Anthony, and Cheers, Jared)

Uhh….what the hell is “automated human visual verification?”

Does that phrase even make sense on ANY level?

Are “automated humans” verifying something visually? What the hell are “automated humans” anyway?

I actually feel good about this Nexicon thing — the more bullshit and scam outfits get into the “anti-piracy” thing, the sooner it’ll turn into the same shit as “generic herbal viagra” retailers — stupid, fly-by-night scam-artist front companies dedicated to ripping off stupid sheep.

After all, that’s all the RIAA is, at this point anyway.

  2. Devil's Advocate Says:

“…driven by Nexicon’s MARC Anti-Piracy platform which monitors the Internet for illegal downloads, analyzes infringement data, reports on copyright infringements…”

So, what are we talking about here – another form of DPI??!
    1) From what “vantage point” is this monitoring performed?
    2) What authority would permit anyone to examine public data packets in this fashion, if not part of a specific criminal investigation by actual law enforcement agencies?
    3) Is this not just another example of illegal tapping and interference with the Internet data stream??

“Oh by the way… Where did you say they were selling those tinfoil hats?!”

  3. Rob Says:

Again, if you used something like http://www.torrentfreedom.com this stupid thing can’t work anyway. :P

    Game over.

  4. Comeoncomcast Says:

Ahhh I feel privacy and fraud Class Action Suits coming on Oh and Data Mining, If Im not mistaken Without consent, Is pretty much a Criminal Offence in the US and around the world is it not?

  5. Comeoncomcast Says:
