‘Let Jeremy Hinzman stay in Canada’
p2pnet news view Politics | Freedom | P2P:- “We’ve been in Canada for the last 4 1/2 years,” says Jeremy Hinzman, 29, pictured with his wife, Nga Nguyen, and their two children, both six, in a YouTube video addressed to Conservative leader Stephen Harper.
But if the Harper Conservatives have their way, Hinzman and his young family will have to leave Canada by September 23. Or face deportation.
That’s because he fled here from the US in January, “after his application for Conscientious Objector status was rejected by the U.S. military,” says the Democracy Now blog in 2004.
“If Hinzman is sent back to the U.S., he faces imprisonment and a criminal record,”, said.
Now, “Fresh off the campaign trail, Liberal Bob Rae spoke at a Toronto news conference Thursday with Hinzman,” says the CBC, going on:
“Rae said the Liberals are still committed to keeping American war deserters in Canada.
“He urged the government to support a motion passed earlier this year by all parties, except the Conservatives, to let conscientious objectors take up permanent residence.”
In the video, Hinzman says he served in Afghanistan but in 2004, he and his family moved to Canada because he’d refused to “participate in the Iraqi war,” a war, “which Canada also refused to participate in because it was condemned by the international community.”
Hinzman has applied for a stay of removal, but isn’t expecting it to be granted, says the CBC, adding:
” ‘The Conservatives are ahead and they’re not sympathetic to us in the least,’ he said, referring to opinion polls in advance of the Oct. 14. election.”

Canada should not only be allowing Hinzman to stay, but also questioning its own involvement in this farce known as the “War on Terror”!All the hard questions about 9/11 itself don’t appear to have been answered, and I have to wonder if the Canadian Government ever even asked over the 7 years afterward.

send them back
not because of the war thing.
he decided to serve his country regardless of where and why.
if you don’t agree with fighting a war don’t join the military simple as that.
its not like ww1 and 2 where you were told you are going, this was his own choice.

this was his own choice to believe in his country and fight for freedoms.
However, the US never did and never was able to implicate Iraq in anything. The Canadian Gov made the right choice by asking for the PROOF of iraqi involvement which the US could not produce and would not give. Thus Canada’s stance was no proof, no war in Iraq.
The so called “war on terror” is nothing more than a US farce.
Should Miliary personal be used as pawns in an US government farce?
This guy did the right thing by leaving the military and the country based on facts and conscientious objections.

Even if he wasn’t coerced into joining the military he should have a right to change his mental orientation on that and his career.
I understand that in Canada once you join you are placing yourself in a position where you can be called back any time, as well. Young people should be warned about that when they are considering all that free training they’ll get and the guaranteed job after.

Once again, Jeremy Hinzman was NOT drafted. Of his OWN free will HE signed up to join the army…. HE DID… no one forced him to join. It is IRRELEVANT where he is asked to serve. HE JOINED THE ARMY. Now, they actually ask him to serve, HE chooses to renege on that deal when HE agreed he would serve. He must now face the consequences… end of story.
