Fake emails sent in Harper’s name

p2pnet news view Politics | P2P:- Across the border, Sarah Palin’s Yahoo email account was hacked and so, by way of a follow-on, was Fox News bigot Bill O’Reilly’s.

Is this the start of something big?

Dozens of journalists and Tory supporters received two emails, yesterday, and they were allegedly from Conservative leader George W. Harper.

“Average Canadian” Harper, “wanted to tell you” he, “intends to destroy health care, make Canada the 51st U.S. state, is beholden to the Alberta tar sands, and dislikes all things green except for the almighty American dollar,” said one, according to the Canadian Press.

The second refers to Kosovo’s recent declaration of indepence and suggests a sovereign Quebec is next, says CJAD.

In the US much play has been made of the fact it was a doddle for the US hacker to hack Palin’s Yahoo account and apparently, it was no super-hack to have spurious messages sent out under Harper’s name.

There’s an email address that automatically distributes messages to people who’ve signed onto the Prime Ministers Office listserv mailing list and all the perps needed was the listserv’s email address, says CP.

But no worries.

The Mounties and Communications Security Establishment are on the job.

Maybe they can get a few tips from their opposite numbers in the US. There, the FBI and Secret Service are investigating and, says The Register, “served a search warrant on a suspect in the Sarah Palin webmail hack case in the early hours of Sunday morning.”

They, “reportedly interrupted a student party to search the apartment of David Kernell, 20, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Reports of the raid itself remain confused amid reports that Kernell and his flatmates fled the scene.”

Stay tuned as the Forces of Good reel in the Email Doers here and over yonder.
