The Street named Scientology

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- Speaking of the Cult of Scientolgy, did you know there’s actually a street in Los Angeles named after L. Ron Hubbard, the dead founder?

Yup. There is.

And it’s not a p2pnet spoof.

“An inaugural walk down L. Ron Hubbard Way,” says the caption to the pic — “from left, Los Angeles City Council Member Richard Alatorre and City Council President John Ferraro, actor John Travolta, Church of Scientology International President Rev. Heber Jentzsch, Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan’s representative Chelsea Cochrane, and David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board Religious Technology Center.”

And the cult gets the street closed down every weekend.

Unphkinghbelieveable. But true.

The story, on the cult’s Freedom (cough, splutter) site, doesn’t have a date, but diligent research reveals CoS Way was spawned in 1997. Clearly, Tom Cruise hadn’t joined up at the time.

Imagine what it must be like to live there. Unless you’re Tiny Tom or Big John, of course.

But you don’t need to imagine because Sammi Franklin ‘(left) and free speech advocate Lisa Derrick can tell you all about it. They live there, and every weekend — every weekend — this public street is shut down by order of the cult so it can stage events.

Says LAlist »»»

At Wednesday’s LA City Council meeting, non-Scientologist and resident of L Ron Hubbard Way, Sammi Franklin, and free speech advocate Lisa Derrick stood in the chambers at city hall to explain what it’s like to live on a street closed down every weekend of the year.

As in past years, the Church of Scientology requested that the weekly event be considered a special event by the city in order to close the public street, which was called Berendo until 1996, and sidewalks every weekend. Think of their request like a farmers market asking a street be closed every Sunday morning. For any street closure to go through, a councilmember must sponsor a motion that will go up for approval by the council.

It’s such a standard type of motion, every week, a variety of special events are passed with little public comment or opposition (block parties, weekend festivals, etc).

But on Friday, the Scientology motion was continued to be discussed further on Tuesday, which will be aired live on Channel 35 or the internet.

Definitely stay tuned. And if you’re  at the meeting, don’t forget to tell us about it.

It’s about time people all over the world are starting to stand up to this facist cult. For a good idea of what life is like for the non scientology residents of L. Ron Hubbard just watch this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MP6CHGdnLEQ Here we see scientologists attempting to block a 61 year old woman from using the sidewalk to go home.

also in b4 anonymous is a hate group, terrorist organization, made bomb threats etc.

Scientology Spokesman Tommy Davis: You know, John, the reality on it is… In our case, we are dealing with things like 96 death threats, bomb threads, acts of vandalism… you know, this kind of things that are very destructive and very harmful. And we have to take measures on our part to ensure the protection of our facilities and our parishioners and their physical well-being as a general rule. When you are talking about this group, and referring them to… and referring to them as cyber-terrorists, you know…

CNN’s John Roberts: You are leveling these accusations at this group. The FBI, which is looking into it, says it has found nothing to connect this group Anonymous with what you are talking about, or death threats against members of the church. The FBI, at this point, says: it is no reason to believe that charges will be leveled against this group.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSS178Q-4eo

The bomb threat was a lie.

  2. Silly Ratfaced Git Says:

That’s actually a pretty good picture of the “Demented Dwarf Demigod” David Miscavige, aka DM. He and tiny Tom actually make a pretty good set of matching bookends provided that your books are not too large.

Cruise joined the church in circa 1989 at the urging of his first wife, Mimi Rodgers. He wasn’t very vocal about his membership in the 90s.

Heber has since been demoted to obscurity.

DM has been quietly editiing LRH’s works since before that picture was taken. Freezoners will not buy some of the recent editions because the edits are so extensive. So much for the sanctity of the source. DM is squirelling the tech all by himself. Who died and left him boss? Not LRH. LRH died but LRH actually named someone else boss. You can tell I am not a scientologist because I said the LRH died instead of saying that he dropped his body so that he could continues his experiments on the next plane.

    The truth is out there.

  3. Anonymous Says:

I’m anonymous, but not Anonymous. I’m not putting my name up anywhere because Scientology scares the ever living crap out of me. I can not believe that they can close down a street every weekend and the City Council condones it. I hope to make new friends on L. Ron Hubbard Way when I take a walk this weekend. I just don’t want to meet a Scientologist.

    Scary cult! Bad people!

    I agree.

  4. Jon Says:

    Hi not Anonymous:

If you do that, please let me know how it goes and what you see (pix would be good too ;) )

  5. Marg Abian Says:

The black PR is in full swing meaning Scientology is seeing Anonymous as a formidable opponent.
@ 6:03: Be careful of the cult. Be aware and be safe. There are reasons for feeling as you do.

But there will never be enough reasons to tolerate it. Just adding your informed opinion here and becoming educated to their fascist ways while spreading the information everywhere helps a great deal. Check out whyweprotest.net to find out why Anonymous protesters wear masks. To find out how Scientology deals with criticism: http://www.xenu.net/fairgame-e.html and Paulette Cooper’s horrendous experience: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Freakout

The Scientologists are collecting the Social Security numbers of the folks who live there.
What do they need that information for? And is it even legal to have this info?
Why are ordinary citizens not “allowed” free access to the homes THEY OWN?
City Council is complicit in the situation. Why are they supporting UnAmerican Activities?
    Stay tuned.
And thank you once again, Jon.
    Stay safe

  6. AnonLA Says:

OK Just spoke with Helen Leung of Cncilman Garcetti’s office 323 957-4500
A private meeting with LRH way residents will be scheduled (no sunshine).
They are only now aware of complaints from residents; public has not complained
    DUH
I told her I want to drive on a public street on the weekend.
She said they will start with residents and asked for my name and number.
I told her I am unsure about trusting Garcetti until I know that he is not a scino stooge.

I asked her if any other city in the US has a street that gets closed every weekend.
She does not know all the cities in the US

I told her is any other street in her district closed any weekend?
    She said NO.

I asked if this is a public street, or a weekend private park?
    STUMPED.

    PUBLICS: complain.
    We want a meeting too.

Garcetti’s office already has talking points and the piece just ran on ch 9 less than two hours ago.

    Garcetti> guilty until proven innocent.
I want to drive on LRH way on the weekend.
I do not want to be PI’d and photographed and followed when I walk/drive on that street.

Helen needs to be careful of Scinos so if you don’t care to give her an opinion on the street control by a private business, help her out by warning her about her personal safety.

    PUBLIC MEETINGS
    SUNSHINE ERIC

I let her know that other *publics* (she said had not complained, just residents complained…) would be expressing their concern. She said there are other North-South streets available

    I say: crimineeeee….this is a PUBLIC STREET.

  7. Luke Says:

    HAHAHAHA
saying the words “cult of” over and over and over again doesnt make it ture. Simarly, just convincing a big bunch of people that its a cult doesnt make it true either. You need actual points to proove it… face it, you got nothing that can’t be countered as being completely untrue or simply “hugely far fetched conspiracy”.
Furthermore, annonymous doesn’t want the street for a “friendly acceptable protest” they want to ruin a minority group by fear of “numbers”, intimidation and other illegal things like death threats, graffitti and vandalism. If they are so “friendly” how about telling everyone thier names??

  8. Dave2 Says:

Gee, Luke, when every single independent investigator reaches exactly the same conclusion, what exactly are we supposed to conclude?

Let me just mention news and magazine journalism: the 1991 Time Magazine article, the 1986 Forbes piece, the six-part 1990 Los Angeles Times series, the 1980 Reader’s Digest article, the Pulitzer Prize-winning 1980 St. Petersburg Times series on the takeover of Clearwater, the 2006 Rolling Stone article, the 1984 Sunday Times Magazine piece, the 1968 Life magazine article, the 1986 L.A. Weekly article, the 1994 Washington Post article, the 1997 L.A. Weekly article on Study Tech, the 1997 New York Times article on their tax-exempt status, the 1980 American Lawyer piece on Scientology’s war against judges, the 1999 New Times L.A. piece on the takeover of the Cult Awareness Network, the 1998 Boston Herald series, the eight-part 2001 New Times L.A. series, the Maisonneuve profile of Gerry Armstrong from June 23 of this year, or the lengthy Village Voice article from June 30 of this year.

If Scientology’s not a cult, then that thing in my toilet isn’t a turd (and trust me, it’s a turd).

  9. Jan Eastgate Says:

Why do so many people think Scientology is a cult?
The main reason is the extreme level of control exerted by the organization over its members. The Disconnection policy forcibly isolates Scientologists from any friends or family who are critical of Scientology. Sec-checks are e-meter checks (lie detector tests) used during interrogations of staff and Sea Org members. If you express a desire to leave Scientology, you may be subjected to a sec-check where you are accused of having committed crimes against the group. Scientologists are pressured into paying large amounts of money to the CoS for supposedly spiritual services and books. In Scientology Orgs there are minors working full time for little pay and they are denied a proper education.

All these facts are on the public record. Go and read the court documents and affidavits. Read Astra Woodcraft’s 2001 declaration at exscientologykids.com
Look up the alarming criminal history of Scientology. The founder of the cult, L. Ron Hubbard, was convicted for fraud in France. He died as a fugitive from justice. His wife (the then second-in-command) along with ten other high level Scientologists were convicted in the Operation Snow White trial. The CoS has been convicted as an organization for breaching the public trust in Canada. France, Germany and Belgium are currently seeking to stop the abusive practices of Scientology.

  10. Devil's Advocate Says:

    @Luke…

Saying over and over again that all the documented facts about something are lies, doesn’t make them lies, either! And even regardless of any documentation, people have to be pretty confused not to see for themselves how warped and corrupted the whole Scientology scene is.

Scientology is the epitome of cultism, its leaders are nothing but criminals, and I feel nothing but sheer pity for the pathetic fucks that feel the need to follow it.

    P.S. spellcheck FTW!

  13. Chango Says:

This might be nitpicking, but did anyone notice anything strange about the “An inaugural walk down L. Ron Hubbard Way” photo on this page? John Travolta is 6′2 and Miscavige is a short guy, but he appears to be only a little shorter than Travolta. Then, if you look at his (Miscavige’s) right foot, he is either taking a MONSTER step or else that foot is supposed to be behind him. Also, the woman next to him seems to be wearing two different color shoes… I was looking for other copies of the same photo, but all of the ones I have found online are cropped at the knees. there is something weird there.

  14. roger gonnet Says:

USA is certainly the country respecting criminals and dangerous cults, as it seems. I wonder how many other street in US are named after poly-convicted criminals. To remind, M. Hubbard got 4 years unsuspended plus amend in France for fraud 100% linked to scientology. He was also forced to refund part of what he had stolen to his “friend” Ja&ck Parsons. Got an amend for petty check, too. Got convicted for having abandoned his kid in a car. Got sued for having kidnapped another of his kids.
Scientology and scientologists have been sued HUNDREDS of times since 1950. For homicides, murders, fraud, extortion, etc. Read www.xenu.net for more.
So, calling a street in LA from such a criminal mind as Hubbard was is only a big shame thrown upon the country as a whole.

  15. EastAnon Says:

    Luke,

You’re right. It is not true just because anonymous says so.
It is true because there is proof of their crimes, because ex-members say so. Not a few ex-members, but a HUGE number of them. Their organisation in Australia, New Zealand and Oceania is shrinking to obscurity. Their numbers are dwindling everywhere. Do you want to be informed? Do you want to read these gruesome stories of abuse, forced abortions, slavery, imprisonment?

    http://forum.exscn.net/forumdisplay.php?f=2
    http://www.exscientologykids.com/voicesinunison.html

There’s more. Much more. But that’s a start. And if you still don’t believe it’s a cult after reading that, talk to Arnie Lerma, Chuck Beatty, read xenu.net. Just too much evidence to ignore. The FBI is on to them, together with a few other government agencies.

Anonymous is not out to ruin a minority group. We are there because Scientology (the organisation) is a criminal business under the cloak of a religion.

  16. Anonymous Says:

Lisa Derrick doesn’t live in that street, and she is not a “freedom of speech advocate”; she’s a member of Anonymous, the same group that hacked Sarah Palin’s email, Bill O’Reilly’s website, pranked Oprah, attacked epileptics, attacked an online children’s game, attacked FOX and attacks the Church of Scientology.

  19. Silly Ratfaced Git Says:

    @Luke

Perhaps you’ve never seen the qualities that are used to determine if an organisation qualifies as a cult.

    From http://www.csj.org/infoserv_cult101/checklis.htm

    Checklist of Cult Characteristics

    1. The group displays excessively zealous and unquestioning commitment to its leader and (whether he is alive or dead) regards his belief system, ideology, and practices as the Truth, as law. CHECK. LRH is the source. His word is law. No one may question or criticize.

    2. Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished. CHECK. These are all either out-ethics or at least down-stat.

    3. Mind-altering practices (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, and debilitating work routines) are used in excess and serve to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s). CHECK. Most of the TRs (Training Routines) are exercises in auto-hypnosis which qualify for this item. LRH was a gifted hypnotist by many accounts, and he gathered the techniques that went into the TRs from some pretty advanced Psychology studies.

    4. The leadership dictates, sometimes in great detail, how members should think, act, and feel (for example, members must get permission to date, change jobs, marry—or leaders prescribe what types of clothes to wear, where to live, whether or not to have children, how to discipline children, and so forth). CHECK. Although not all Scientologists feel the full impact of this one. The Hollywood celebrities get kid glove treatment while Sea Org members have pretty much all aspects of their life controlled by the cult.

    5. The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s) and members (for example, the leader is considered the Messiah, a special being, an avatar—or the group and/or the leader is on a special mission to save humanity). CHECK. Scientologists are Thetans, everyone else is a WOG or Raw Meat (a WOG that might become a member). Hence the name of Mark Bunker’s (Wise Beard Man) Blog, the Wog Blog ( http://xenutv.wordpress.com/ ).

    6. ‪ The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which may cause conflict with the wider society. CHECK. Most of us know that wog is a derisory term and don’t like it.

    7. ‪ The leader is not accountable to any authorities (unlike, for example, teachers, military commanders or ministers, priests, monks, and rabbis of mainstream religious denominations). CHECK. LRH spent the last ten years of his life in hiding since several countries, including the US, had criminal charges against him.

    8. ‪ The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify whatever means it deems necessary. This may result in members’ participating in behaviors or activities they would have considered reprehensible or unethical before joining the group (for example, lying to family or friends, or collecting money for bogus charities). CHECK. The web is filled with stories of ex-scienos that did things for the cult (or to pay for auditing) that they regretted. Google “Lonesome Squirrel” “Steven Fishman” for the story of a scieno who committed criminal fraud to finance his Scientology addiction. It’s an interesting read.

‪9. The leadership induces feelings of shame and/or guilt in order to influence and/or control members. Often, this is done through peer pressure and subtle forms of persuasion. CHECK. Many ex-scienos describe such tactics by auditors and particularly by ethics officers.

10.‪ Subservience to the leader or group requires members to cut ties with family and friends, and radically alter the personal goals and activities they had before joining the group. CHECK. The cult calls this disconnection. Family and friends that are not cult members eventually become PTS (Potential Trouble Source) when they notice that the cult member is speaking a new language and in general acting like a cult member (in this case a Rondroid). Ultimately they become SP (Suppressive Person) from whom the Rondroid must disconnect.

11.‪ The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members. CHECK. Had a personality test recently?

12.‪ The group is preoccupied with making money. CHECK. CHECK. CHECK. CHECK. In spades.

13.‪ Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group and group-related activities. CHECK. That’s one of the reasons L Ron Hubbard Way is closed every weekend. I need to spend at least another dozen hours at cause with the ashtray.

14.‪ Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members. CHECK. I suspect that Nicole is no longer married to Tiny Tom because she never bought into the cult. They don’t call non-scienos wogs for nothing. Cult members speak a language that only they understand. They use made up words like Enturbulate (It’s not in the OED or Websters), and use a plethora of three and four letter acronyms that makes engineers envious. Lets face it, if your life revolves around erasing engrams and becoming clear, you are going to hang with other cult members most of the time. Everyone else is going to think you’re a nutjob if you start talking about entheta and blowing body thetans.

‪15. The most loyal members (the “true believers”) feel there can be no life outside the context of the group. They believe there is no other way to be, and often fear reprisals to themselves or others if they leave (or even consider leaving) the group. CHECK.

Looks to me like Scientology qualifies as a cult with flying colors.

Note that I do not advocate the end to Scientology, nor does Anonymous. We want an end to horrible excesses, such as disconnection, declaring SPs, spying on critics, suppression of critics, and stop abusing and draining all of the money from your membership. You’ll never clear the planet since only Hollywood celebrities can afford your church. How come all other religions give away copies of their scriptures? How about stop telling epileptics to stop taking their anti-convulsion meds. Auditing and becoming clear will not cure epilepsy. I don’t care what LRH said. He’s wrong about psychology. He ‘borrowed’ an awful lot from psychology to write all of his scriptures. Just because he failed to cite the sources he used doesn’t mean he didn’t use them. He lied a lot and often.

There are a lot of people in the Freezone that very much believe that LRH’s Tech helps them lead a better life. They just don’t like the way Co$ is being run by that demented dwarf DM.

  20. Reader's Write Says:

Why not join a free scientologist group instead of paying thousand to this parasite of Miscaridge and still have migraines and cold at OT7 level?

  21. Blanchimont Says:

Go get them Anonymous^^!, kick their unmentionables to smithereens!!
They are nothing more than a cult trying to masquerade as something like a legitimate religion but no matter what paint they try to put on they can’t hide that they’re still just that, a dangerous cult brainwashing people. How they EVER managed to deceive a whole town council all this time is beyond me, and wasn’t the street itself named differently not that many years ago, -97 to be precise, so what was the reason for the change, bribes?..
Too many people have been harassed and brainwashed by them, too many personal tragedies caused by them, something must be done and it’s good there’s people taking the fight to them^^, not that I personally understand how ANYONE can be afraid of those gutless CoS sissies who for every action they take must hide behind their precious so called ‘church’? After all, wasn’t L Ron Hub just a storyteller who got a little too far into La-La land (perhaps under influence of illegal substances, most likely…) that some poor souls took a little too seriously…
In my opinion, they should put up stopsigns for CoS on that street instead…

I do have a general question to you readers though… I’ve respected US and its people for the proliferation of freedom and human rights across its history, and still do even though I might not agree with its current politics and war mongering (which in my opinion are steps back into the darkness…) so I’d hate to pose this question but… Are the people of America really so much cowards they’re too afraid of some insignificant cult they rather have it poisoning their society rather than stand up to it? Against a cult that probably would shit in their pants if presented with real arguments? But to be honest I refuse to believe that, I refuse to believe there wouldn’t be people fighting the good fight in the promised land of freedom fighters^^…
So far they haven’t had significant activity in Finland, but if they do they’ll have another thing coming…
This is Blanchimont, one who’s not afraid of the antics of CoS, and one to kick their sorry behinds if ever given chance^^…
…Now, I’ll pick a disc of anime, slide it in, sink into the sofa, turn on TV, dim the lights, with a hot cup of coffee and cake beside me, and just relax. It’s a good life, everyone, and we don’t need cults for that^^…

  22. Jon Says:

    Hi all:

I’ve had several enquiries about the lag between comment post submissions in this and other Scientology threads, and their actual appearance.

That’s because I’ve had to flag all incoming Reader’s Writes on the subject. When I first started running the stories, p2pnet was spammed by Scientologists trying to flood the posts.

I’m not online 24 hours a day and although I deal with incomings as quickly as I can, inevitably, there’s a delay.

Sorry about that, but must needs.

    Cheers!

Lisa Derrick is most definitely a free right’s advocate… Note how her group is well-established in her community and supported by government. Note, in contrast, how Scientology’s front-group (such as CCHR, NarCONon, Applied Scholastic etc) are NOT supported by their communities nor by their governments. Do you see what the error here is?
And she is not anonymous; you just gave out her name! I am anonymous posting on this blog, so is everyone here who doesn’t divulge their names… Meaning you!
Using your logic, you would also be a member of Anonymous: You are responsible for alleged bomb threats, you are responsible for the prank on Oprah (which was really her fault), the “hacking” of Bill O’Reilly’s website (which wasn’t hacked at all), you are responsible for the “attacks” on the Church of Scientology… What kind of human being are you? :x

Jon: It’s cool that you should actually be going through the submissions before hosting, instead of removing submissions after having them uploaded. Thanks for your hard work :)

  24. Terryeo Says:

Easy to “see what the error here is”. The error is your misevaluation of the significance of adjacent data.

  25. maggie Says:

NO, Terryeo, the “error” is an organization that behaves in a fascist manner, thrives on fraud, bait and switch and abuses of people and the law, hiding behind a cloak of ‘religion.’

Scientology, Inc. is in court in France and Belgium at the moment.

    Hubbard never envisioned the internet.

  26. Dave2 Says:

Thanks for clearing that up, Terryeo. Maybe in your next post you can tell us what it is that this data is adjacent to, and then we can get started on properly evaluating the significance of this adjacent data.

Also, maybe we can start attempting abortions with a knitting needle, and inducing kleptomania in developing prenatal life by beating a pregnant woman and screaming “Take that! Take that!”, or maybe just curing homosexuality with Dianetics and disposing of the homosexuals we didn’t manage to cure “quietly and without sorrow”.

    It’s science fact!

  27. Kirsten Says:

No problem John. Spamming by $cientologists attempting to flood the posts is a given. Great piece, hopefully the council will be forced to take action now. This in inexcusable. I think we all saw the video of 3 Scientologists blocking the path of an elderly, disabled woman who lived on this street. “Go around” they told her.

    Great piece!

  30. brendon Says:

IMPORTANT: They are also using film permits to shut this street down! FilmLA has some quasi-governmental role in handing out permits to the COS’s “Golden Era” studios. This should also be brought to the Council’s attention. It’s hard to avoid the conclusion that film permits and street closures are being used to keep protestors out. Some compromise solutions: limit number of closures per year (already suggested) limit closure to street but not sidewalks when the “graduation” isn’t going on (bulk of closure seems dedicated to setting up and take down time). Never forget: the COS does not play by the usual rules of ethics that most do. Their ethics start and end with THEM and they don’t care about anything else.

@ everyone in these responses about Terryeo

    DON’T FEED THE TROLL.

If this person cannot/will not answer some of the LEGITIMATE questions, then what is the point of continuing further?

It would be great if he/she would listen, or consider the words posted, and you may just wake them up, but that is highly doubtful. Look at the Manson family, words powerful enough to convince people to MURDER. People like this are fully brainwashed.

The best way to argue, is try to help them, they expect an attack, they are taught they are under attack, while the posts have not been mean in anyway, this approach never works.

lol, on the other hand, the information posted is useful to curious people. so maybe his posts, in turn, will help others see how many retorts bury his/her attempt to defend his broken religion.

I say broken, not BS, because his/her faith may be a wonderful thing, but the abuse of the religion by straight evil people is the problem.
