Is legislator’s son the Palin Hacker?

p2pnet news view | Politics:- The FBI and US Secret Service have for the past few days been on the job, searching grimly with the kind of dogged determination that’s become their hallmark for the person who hacked Sarah Palin’s Yahoo email account.

Palin is John McCain’s choice for vice president of the United States of America. If he wins the election, of course.

Her Yahoo account, “was apparently plundered late Tuesday evening and the contents of the account — personal emails, email addresses of her parents, children and friends, private family photos, and phone numbers — were published all over the Internet Wednesday,” noted The Guardian in Britain.

“The hunt for the hacker who broke into Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s personal e-mail account is shaping up to be a remarkably simple investigation, by the standards of major cybersecurity whodunits,” said Welt Online in Germany.

“U.S. investigators figure the hacker claimed responsibility in a detailed accounting that included his own personal e-mail address and that he tried to cover his trail using a U.S. Internet anonymity service that has been surprisingly cooperative.”

And, “US agents have searched the apartment of the son of a Democratic politician, looking for evidence linking him to the hacking of US Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s email account,” says stuff.co.nz over New Zealand.

Quoting the Associated Press, “The FBI searched the apartment of the 20-year-old son of Tennessee state representative Mike Kernell over the weekend,” it says, going on:

“The hacker broke into the account by researching and guessing enough of Palin’s personal information to trick Yahoo into resetting her password.

“The FBI traced the hacker to an internet anonymity service basd in the US state of Georgia. The owner of the service handed over its logs to the FBI, who further traced the hack to the Tennessee apartment of Mike Kernell’s son.”

However, in the US of A, “Even if the Kernell is conclusively linked with the Palin hack, some lawyers argue that the Department of Justice’s own standards will would make it difficult to give him more than a slap on the wrist,” opines the Wall Street Journal blog.

And perhaps Palin herself will step in on behalf of the hapless youth.

After all, she, too, was once on the wrong end of a hacking scandal.

Stay tuned.

Or not. ;)

Off topic, but relevant: Activision Suing Pirates, RIAA Style

They must think that the RIAA’s “education” campaign of alienating their customers is “working”. (gag)

HACKER HACKER HACKER….UHHH, HACKER!!!! This punk is no hacker. Period. He guessed a password. There is a fair amount of information out there on any public figure, and Mizz Palin is so predictably dim that she used an obvious password. Ooooh, HACKED. B.S. It sounds so much more compelling, and newsworthy, and evil to call it hacking. “College Kid Guesses Soccer Mom’s Yahoo Password” doesn’t have quite the same punch. Or should that be “…Yahoo Soccer Mom’s Password” ??? Yeah, the second way is more accurate.

I will say, I do not support this punk assed kid’s actions. I don’t care if you are a VP candidate or a maid at Motel 6. Your right to privacy should not be abridged by a so called “hacker”, or the Government….

I support Sara Palin’s right to privacy. Would she support mine?
