NO deep packet inspection

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- Alex Hanff hasn’t given up on his campaign to Phorm.

The UK government says it’s perfectly okay for the data mining firm to continue using its user privacy invasion application Webwise, a DPI (deep packet inspection) system.

On NO DPI, “I am currently considering filing for a Judicial Review of City of London Police in relation to their handling of the criminal complaint against BT Group and Phorm Inc,” Hanff says, going on

The costs of a Judicial Review can be incredibly high and there is no way I could even consider this if I am not able to raise the money needed through donations. To this end I have setup a new poll which you can see in the right hand margin of this web site, asking people how much they would be willing to donate should I proceed to a Judicial Review.

The poll is set to run until 10th October 2008 and if we manage to reach a high enough figure to cover the costs then I will announce a donation drive and file for a Judicial Review. Currently we don`t know how much we need to set as the target but we believe we will be looking at 5 figures. I have asked a legal aquaintance if he can help me determine how much we may need, once that figure has been calculated I will update this site with a target.

You don`t need to donate right this minute, this poll is just to see how much we could raise.

Definitely a cause worth supporting.

Stay tuned.

One Response to “NO deep packet inspection”

Excellent news. I was totally disgusted with the CLP decision. Apparently the UK is just like the US – laws only apply to citizens (subjects), corporations can do whatever they please. Microsoft is a fine example of laws being ignored.

I very much admire Alex’s determination.
