MySpace Music tunes in

p2pnet news view | Advertising:- As Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp, “seeks to raise revenues” from its MySpace site, “having failed to meet its $US1 billion ($A1.19 billion) internet sales targets in the past financial year,” it’s launching yet another corporate effort to make money out of surfing music lovers.

Ring the bells! Ring the Bells!

Online, of course.

“The new site, MySpace Music, is a global venture with the four largest record labels, Sony BMG, Universal Music, Warner Music and EMI, which signed at the last minute after months of talks,” continues The Age.

The site went up yesterday and “To get the labels to buy in, MySpace gave each an equity stake in the joint venture,” says BusinessWeek, going on:

“The labels also get a cut of revenues from ads that sit on the page or player. MySpace won’t say how large a slice, but reports indicate it could be 60%.”

Wait up ……… ads that, “sit on the page or player,” you say?

Yes, because MySpace tunes can only be played only on PCs with online connections and, “listeners have to tolerate advertising splashed across the screen,” explains the Associated Press.

So what else is new?

Well, people who want to hear a tune on their actual music players, “are sent from MySpace to Amazon,” says The Age.

There, they have to buy it.

Oh.

Pass.
