Your tax bill under Obama
p2pnet news view | Politics:- If you’re a US taxpayer and Barack Obama becomes the next president, guess how much you’ll have to pay in taxes?
Or, rather, don’t guess. Because you won’t have too.
Instead, you can find out exactly, and instantly, via an online calculator developed by Jeff Gramlich (right), professor of accounting at the University of Southern Maine.
Not only but also, you’ll be able to get the same information if John McCain heads up the next US administration.
The calculator, hosted by Quantrix, started out as a Google Knol, “based largely on the research performed by the excellent economists at the Tax Policy Center, a non-partisan project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution,” says Gramlich.
But the Knol, “turned into a fairly lengthy and complex document, which made it difficult for the average citizen to digest,” he says, going on, “Voters need a better way to understand how the tax plans affect them.”
The result was his instant online tax calculator, a, “great example of effective collaboration between the university and an enthusiastic member of the business community,” says the professor.
“Together we have created a new and innovative way to communicate important information about the candidates’ plans in our upcoming presidential election.”
But, he warns, ” Modeling the tax law and the changes proposed by each of the candidates is a tremendous challenge and it is very likely that errors persist. If you find an error, please use the web form to provide feedback to help us correct it. I will be watching the feedback closely and we will be responsive with corrections.”
Nor is this the end of it.
Gramlich says he’ll be making updates and in the next iteration, “we may include the candidates’ proposed health policies”.

People would say to me, ‘Bill, you vote for Clinton, he’s gonna raise your taxes. A vote for Clinton is a vote for higher taxes.’ See, I have news for you, folks — the reason I didn’t vote for George Bush is because George Bush (along with Ronald Reagan) presided over an administration whose policies towards South America included genocide. So the reason I didn’t vote for him is because he’s a mass murderer. I’ll pay that extra nickel on a liter of petrol just knowing that little brown kids aren’t being clubbed to death like baby seals in Honduras so Pepsi can put a plant down there.
