It stars a white German Shepherd who’s, “lived all his life on the set of a TV show in which he portrays a superhero dog, and as a result thinks that his superpowers are real,” says the Wikipedia, continuing:
“Later, he gets accidentally separated from the studio. He then meets a female cat named Mittens and a hamster named Rhino who never leaves his exercise ball, and eventually he discovers that all of his powers are fake.
It stars John Travolta and Miley Cyrus who, together or singly, are probably sufficient unto themselves to guarantee a handsome income for Disney, who’s responsible for it.
Pali Research’s Rich Greenfield was among the chosen few privileged to watch a screening.
“The story is far more cohesive (and typical of Disney animation) than Meet the Robinsons (which grossed under $100 mm domestically and just under $170 mm worldwide). In addition, Bolt will benefit from a dramatic increase in premium priced, 3D screens (over 1,000 expected) since Disney’s first 3D animated release in 2005, Chicken Little (under 100 3D screens), which broke $300 mm worldwide.”

While the Disney theatrical story appears robust over the next few years, we walked away from the Studio Showcase event increasingly comfortable with our forecast of a 10% decline in Disney’s fiscal (Sept) 2009 Studio Entertainment operating income.
We believe Bolt’s younger skew mitigates a potential risk for Dreamworks Animation, which opens Madagascar 2, two weeks prior to Bolt’s release.
We also feel that Bolt will illustrate that 3D technology, in and of itself, will not drive studio profitability across the industry.
While Bolt was visually captivating in 3D, we are hard pressed to say that it made the movie more compelling.
Bottom line?
Content is still the key, not technology, says Greenfield, adding:
“Box office may benefit from higher ticket pricing, but we doubt it dramatically alter’s the film’s profitability.”
