This is not new, nor is it just Adobe.

For some reason that I have never grasped, US Software and Computer companies seem to think that Brits should be gouged regularly and often. Apple has been known to sell for 200 USD in the US and 200 BP in Britain. And this occurred at a time when the exchange rate was 2 dollars per pound. The Brits have been complaining about this as far back as I remember. I think I first heard about this at The Register in 1997 or 98.

The other odd thing is that the rest of Europe only gets a 10 to 20 percent markup over the US price. In some cases, e.g. things that sell quickly, there is no markup at all over the US price.

I have no idea how they get away with this.

^^ Oops. Sorry. You're right. And today, £1,000 is worth 1,877.74 CAD.

"CS4 master collection, not mere Photoshop."

There's a difference? ;) (Cringes)

Cheers!

Jon, the difference is not $1000... it's £1000! That said, it seems that's for CS4 master collection, not mere Photoshop.

Anyway... WHAT A FUCKING JOKE! For that price difference, you might as well buy a low-season return airplane ticket to New York or even Los Angeles to buy your bloody copy. Oh, and then take the same flight all over again. And guess what? You'd still have £200 pounds to spare after that! Seriously, someone at Adobe deserves to get brutally mugged.

As a matter of principle, I guess I will be pirating CS4 when it comes out, even though I very rarely use it.

I've always heard that Photoshop was a great program, but at even $500+, I'll never buy it.

Hmm, let's see
Bits are heavy and cost alot to ship?
If someone jiggles the box of bits abit too much they get out of order and don't work right?
Expensive Translation: Adding the extra 'u' to colour just costs that much.
Somebody mixed up Canada and Great Britten, and then did the currency conversion backwards (It nearly works)
