California’s ‘True Names’ bill passes
p2pnet.net News:- Senator Kevin Murray’s chilling ‘True Name and Address‘ bill has been approved by California’s Assembly Arts and Entertainment Committee.
Under it, everyone in the state, children included, will now be compelled to put their real names and addresses on any and all files they share.
Hard-core Hollywood legislation, it will apply whether or not files infringe copyrights and, “it has become the model statute for other states and other countries to combat piracy,” says Murray, declaring, “I greatly appreciate the continuing support of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).”
Murray, “continues to be our champion on these issues,” says MPAA senior vp for state legislative affairs Vans Stevenson.
Violation of the statute would be a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $2500 and/or up to one-year imprisonment.
The penalties don’t apply to people distributing files to their immediate family, or within home networks.
“A minor who violated the statute would have to pay a fine of $250 for a first or second offense and a fine not to exceed $1,000, imprisonment in a county jail, or both, for a third or subsequent violation.”
In California, a minor is defined as a person under the age of 18.

This is ridiculous!
I’m a 12 year old girl who hosts files on my website in California.
Now that I have to put my name and worse my address on it someone is going to find out where I live and rape me!!!
You asshole think of an idea that works!

In a way, we already give out our calling card every time we use the internet – in our IP address – and the RIAA has already proven many times that they can obtain our identy quite easily.
Even people using an “anonymous” proxy service may be in for a rude awakening – one such for-pay proxy, Surfola, even ratted out one of its clients last year without so much as a court order.
I suggest putting Senator Murray’s name and address on all shared files – then connecting through a truly anonymous network like a public WI-FI.

Well, there’s not to much to say for this state. We’ve driven up social services, taxes, and driven away businesses, citizens… what makes you thing we would we get this right? If California wasn’t the first to support it’s Hollywood taxpaying companies, then Arizona, Nevada, or Washinton would be the first to open arm welcome them. Money drives the world and Hollywood is driving California in special intrests. They only way people can fight them is by boycotting the Politians and Companies who particapate in these actions.
