Anonymous Coward
p2pnet.net News:- More than one p2pnet comment postee has been annoyed by p2pnet’s Anonymous Coward designation for people who haven’t registered, or who don’t care to leave even an initial.
On the other hand, Dave of daveslounge fame is annoyed by people who won’t say who they are: “Anon disagrees with Anon#2 who disagees with Anon#3″ does not, he says, make for much of an exchange.
So we’ll use this as an opportunity to make a few points.
/. may have created the Anonymous Coward tag. But it probably wasn’t meant to be offensive or to imply people who don’t want to be identified really are cowards. p2pnet, certainly, isn’t using it to put anyone down. Would Unidentified Timid Person be better, perhaps : ) ? We’re open to suggestions.
But on the subject of ID, we make no attempt to find out who readers are, where they live, what they do or what brand of toilet paper they use. It’s nice if people do register because, well, we like to know they find p2pnet valuable enough to show support, and it’s a way for them to get our newsletter.
And on that subject, .the p2pnet.let isn’t a heavy duty, intrusive thingy packed with adverts, although we’d be more than happy to hear from anyone who’d like to sponsor an issue or 10.
Here, for instance, is a clip:
[ P ] 2 [P ] N [ E ] T . L [ E ] T
Vol 1, Edition 72
p2pnet.let is published every weekday, with a weekend catch-up on Mondays.
Feedback on the site and story submissions and/or ideas are always welcomed : )
Cheers! And all the best …
========================
FRIDAY, June 18
Go fly(er)ing with Down Hill Battle
The DHB guys are at it again – http://p2pnet.net/story/1710
Bono’s SPY Act passes
Calls for $3M fines – http://p2pnet.net/story/1711
And that’s it. All of it. Intrusive and obnoxious it isn’t. And there are usually between about seven and 14 entries every day.
On the copy, it’s:
- Material we’ve picked up, researched and written and which hasn’t been spun, filtered and pre-digested by vested corporate interests
- Digests/excerpts from one (but usually more) online stories. There’s always a direct link back to the original(s), as well as frequent mention of sources throughout a given item.
- Articles reproduced in full from somewhere/someone else, in which case although we don’t say so, they’re always included in p2pnet with permission, and they have clearly defined links back to them.
We’re happy for people to use any part, or all, of p2p material and we appreciate it if they include a link back to us, or at least a mention of p2pnet. But bottom line, the whole idea is to communicate points of view which don’t usually get a lot of mention in the mainstream on- or offline media. And we could hardly do that if our knickers got in a twist every time someone cribbed from us.
P2p isn’t only about music and movies: it’s there so people can share everything – information ideas, philosophies, concepts. – and it’ll become increasingly important to the way world societies and cultures interact and function with each other.
And you can help. If you have a news item, contact us at news[at]p2pnet[dot]net, or if you’d like to submit something, you can do it via submissions[at]p2pnet[dot]net.
If you’d like to register, use the box on the main page.
Cheers! And all the best ….

Don’t know if this was intentional, but Unidentified Timid Person would be UTP, a connectionLESS protocol – no real relational communication between two UTPs!

Not intentional. heh

If you keep this site in your ‘favourites’ or ‘bookmarks’, and you feel the urge to ‘contribute’, then do so!
But pick a name, any name!
If you choose to be Anon, then there ain’t no more that can be said. You make a point, then move on. If that is the case, why post a ‘comment’ in the first place?

I don’t have a problem with the “Anonymous Coward” label. In most cases, it’s probably pretty accurate. If it bothers anybody, they can register, including me.

I like being an anonymous coward, I like my privacy.
As for support? I do so by coming here all the time and telling other people about its existance
