NDP on the ballot in all 308 ridings
p2pnet news view | P2P | Politics:- One could be forgiven thinking there are but five parties contesting the 2008 Canadian elections: the Conservatives, Liberals, NDP, Green party and Bloc Quebecois.
But that’s not the case, not even nearly, David Akin makes it clear in his On The Hill blog.
“Even though the NDP has had more trouble than other parties with some of its candidates, it managed to get on the ballot in each of Canada’s 308 ridings by the Elections Canada cutoff date of Sept. 22,” he says, going on »»»
In fact, it was the only party to do that.
Parties will scramble to get any warm body on the ballot by that cutoff date because Elections Canada sets the national spending limits based on the number of voters in each riding that the party has fielded a candidate — by that cutoff date of Sept. 22.
So anyone dropping off after that date does not affect a party’s spending limit.

I suddenly have a powerful urge to move to Canada and start a Silly Party or a Very Silly Party.
I admire the Work Less Party, although it sounds more like advice rather than a political party. I look forward to the Work Less Party More Party.
The no affiliation people should have gotten together and created the Affiliated Party. The Affiliated Party has no party platform, but it’s better than being not affiliated.

So where is the communist part of canada? Voting communist .. quite the paradox.
For some parties I wonder if this is just a cash grab and they’ll spend the money on other things than running a platform.
