Layton on Harper’s ‘last ditch effort’
p2pnet news view | P2P | Politics:- NDP leader Jack Layton doesn’t think George W. Harper’s “What me worry?” attitude on uncertainties driven by the inexorable unfolding of a world economic crisis will impress Canadians.
Meeting with the editorial board of Vancouver newspaper The Province, the prime minister’s view, “is out of sync with a bunch of worried people,” Layton said.
And on the Conservative’s platform, due out today, “I don’t think that a last-ditch effort [that says], ‘Guess what, I had a life-preserver behind my back all this time, and I’m going to throw it out now to you.’ I don’t think people will be impressed by it.”
On being prime minister, “I would do what I’ve done as leader of the party up to now, which is to try to have our ideas implemented, and work with any other leaders who want to help that happen.”
And on the resignations of three B.C. NDP candidates, “We’re going to have to do a top-to-bottom review of that whole process. It clearly failed us and I’m not happy about it. We haven’t had these kind of problems before.”
Not only but also, on the leaders’ debate format, “It reminded me of sitting around the table with a good debate with my dad, who was a Conservative.”
