Greens-Liberals alliance? No Way! says May
p2pnet news view | P2P | Politics:- With today the last day before Canadians go to the polls to decide who’ll run the country, politicians are pulling out the plugs — all of them — to make sure voters vote for them.
Some reports are quoting Green Party leader Elizabeth may as supporting strategic voting.
“On the eve of election day politicians make a frenzied pitch for votes while Green party Leader Elizabeth May makes a statement that has Liberal Leader Stephane Dion giving thanks on the holiday weekend,” says the Canadian Press, continuing »»»
In order to stop vote splitting, May said voters may want to check Liberal or NDP on their ballot in tightly contested ridings to prevent the Conservative candidate from winning.
Liberal Leader Stephane Dion saw her statement as an endorsement and called May a “courageous Canadian.”
Dion told a cheering crowd in Vaughan, Ont., last night that the Liberals will do everything they can to help May win in her riding of Central Nova.
“Because Canada will be better off with Elizabeth May than Peter MacKay,” Dion said of the Conservative cabinet minister who currently holds the riding.
He said by coming together May and Dion will give Canada the greenest prime minister ever.
But, No Way! – May declares angrily, strongly denying she said anything of the kind.
Says a statement on the Green party site »»»
Green Party leader Elizabeth May has not called on voters to abandon Green Party candidates. A news story that states otherwise is misleading.
Ms. May did say that, “Being honest with the voters, I acknowledge that there is concern over vote-splitting in a small number of ridings. But I am not going to say ‘vote Liberal here, vote NDP there.’
“I do understand how difficult choices can be due to the perverse results of the first-past-the-post voting system. Canada needs an electoral system that accurately represents how Canadians vote.”
And, “I repeated over and over that I would not advise voters to vote for anyone other than Greens,” May adds. “Attempts to misrepresent my position on this issue are tiring.
“I do not support strategic voting and I have not advised voters to choose any candidate other than Green.”
Are the people paying attention?
Tune in tomorrow.

“I want to do politics in a much different way, with collaboration, civility and respect. But I am not making deals with other parties, and the Greens are not in discussions with other parties.
“I will say it once again so absolutely no one can be confused or misled: I want Canadians to elect Green MPs.” Elizabeth May.

Dear Elizabeth May,
I do hope you will see your way clear to forming a coalition govt. with the Liberals and the NDP! That would be a godsend in contrast to yet more destructive Harper govt. And please let the first act of your coalition govt. be to bring in PR so that millions of votes like mine would actually count . How much voter apathy is a result of being didenfranchised?
