Kansas students’ cash windfall
p2pnet news view | Off Topic:- University of Kansas Edwards Campus students were overjoyed by what they thought was an amazing windfall.
Free cash.
Some 421 of them had unexpected tuition payouts which, in some cases, came to more than $700, says the Kansas City Star.
But it wasn’t to be
KU’s Enroll & Pay system had suffered a major glitch and emails demanding the refunds be refunded soon followed.
“Bob Turvey, director of student information systems for KU, said the university made a change several weeks ago in how Edwards Campus funds were allocated in the budget,” says the story, going on, “After weeks of testing on the computer system, he felt confident the problem had been worked out.”
Obviously, he was wrong.
KU realized something was up when, “several honest students called the bursar’s office wondering about the extra money they had received”.
The university is “being flexible” over the time frame in which students can pay back the payback, says the Star, adding:
“Bills for the money will be due Dec. 15, but in some cases the university is extending the deadline to January to allow students to receive additional financial aid, he said.”

KU made the mistake; KU should have to pay for it. I bet anything if the mistake was at the benefit of KU, then KU wouldn’t return the money that belonged to the students.
