Mr Dolemite, Rudy Ray Moore, dies

p2pnet news view Music | Movies:-“Without Rudy Ray Moore, there would be no Snoop Dogg, and that’s for real” ~ Snoop Dogg.

The declaration comes on Rudy Moore’s MySpace page.

Moore, aka Mr Dolemite, died on Sunday.

Says his site:

“A 60 + year veteran of the stage, the first x rated comedian, one of the first African American filmmakers and the third most sampled man in the world, his self made comedy records and films have inspired and influenced generations from a thousand walks of life and a hundred nations.

“He had recently finished work on ‘The Dolemite Explosion’ with longtime friend and costar Jimmy Lynch (his first self made film in 30 years), an album of soul ballads called ‘Let Me Sing To You Before I Drift Away’ with his daughter Yvette ‘Rusty’ Wesson, and had been Highlighted by Hadjii in an episode of ‘Somebodies’ on BET and was looking forward to a resurgence and a country album.

“After a long battle with diabetes and obscurity, he passed peacefully on Sunday at the age of 81.”

He played a, “flashy pimp in the movie Dolemite and influenced a generation of rappers,” says USA Today, adding

“Rudy Ray Moore was part of the heyday of black ‘party records.’ His stage personality featured blunt sex routines but, unlike contemporaries Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor, he never crossed over to mainstream white audiences.

“The Washington Post said in a 1992 profile that Moore was “an astounding renderer of ‘toasts,’ — elaborately boastful, profane and scatological tales of life in the old-style urban subculture of pimps, prostitutes, gamblers and badmen. His husky, down-home voice is ideal for it.”

My uncle used to watch all those movies. This guy was in some of the most outrageous fight scenes in movie history. He will live on forever in those films and the <a href=”http://highbridnation.com/2008/10/20/highbrid-nation-remembers-70s-comedian-icon-rudy-ray-moore-aka-dolemite/” rel=”nofollow”>music he inspired.</a>
