Motorola signs up with Google Android
p2pnet news view | Mobiles:- After five years of selling millions of Linux phones in Asia, and after a year during which many of Motorola’s top US phones, “used the homegrown Linux stack,” the company, “will ditch its MotoMAGX Linux stack and UIQ Symbian stack in favor of Google’s Android Linux/Java stack and Windows Mobile 6.5 and 7, it announced today,” says Slashdot.
Interestingly, this follows news that although Motorola’s, “financial hardships are causing them to cut 3,000 jobs, they’re nonetheless planning to, “hire hundreds of Android developers,” says the post.
“T-Mobile USA started selling it last week and the mainstream media were, ‘all-a-Google over the latest mobile phone,’ said p2pnet recently, going on to quote Gizmodo’s Matt Buchanan as saying problems were quickly piling up, including some that, “might very well be dealbreakers”.
And According to Reuters, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse doesn’t think Android in its current form is, “good enough to put the Sprint brand on it”.
Motorola, however, differs.
“Motorola, recognizing that most developers won’t have deep experience with Google Android, is looking for a somewhat general skillset,” said CNet News, quoting a job posting for a Principal Engineer which stated
We are looking for an Application Developer to work on new client applications and services for Motorola phones based on the Google Android platform. Main responsibilities will include programming in Java, designing and documenting feature implementation plans, and general troubleshooting.
“Java and Google Android programming experience” is listed as “highly desirable,” but not required.
And it looks like the positions have been filled.
“This job posting is no longer active,” says the careers site.

This will not turn around Motorola. Executives are not prescient, and companies need market input to migrate successfully. Cutting new products and technologies is not going to provide the elements needed to success – good scenario planning, obsessive competitor understanding, willingness to be disruptive and using White Space to understand market needs. Motorola’s new plan misses most of the requirements. Read more at http://www.ThePhoenixPrinciple.com
