IBM executive jumps ship for Apple

p2pnet news view | Off Topic:- Ex-IBM employee Mark Papermaster has deserted Big Blue for a new job at Apple.

Why is that worth a mention?

IBM is suing him because he’d signed an agreement preventing him from accepting a job with a competitor until one year after leaving IBM, says the New York Times.

Yeh. But why is Big Blue so upset?

Papermaster, formerly in charge of its blade server business, is joining Apple, “as senior vice president of Devices Hardware Engineering, reporting to Apple CEO Steve Jobs,” says Apple today.

Oh.

Meanwhile, “Tony Fadell has given up his position of senior vice president of the iPod Division at Apple and will remain as an advisor to the CEO,” observes Computerworld, adding:

“A similar but more drastic move has been made by his wife, vice president of Human Resources, who chose to simply leave the company at the end of the year.”

  1. Reader's Write Says:

And ADQ elected MPs jumped ship to Liberal Party of Quebec.

  2. Eric Says:

This happened with Nolan Bushnell– he couldn’t join a competitor to Atari from 1976 (when he sold out to Time-Warner) until 1983 (when he joined Videa aka Sente just a bit too early and almost got sued for it).

I think one year is better than seven.

Now, if Atari instead had that policy on ALL important employees, it would have been interesting to see what happened instead when Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak left.
