p2pnet changes

p2pnet news view | Advertising:- Hi all:

I’m planning several minor changes to p2pnet, so here’s a from-me-to-you.

Two paid advertisements, one ad in exchange for hosting, and monthly donations from my ever-patient anonymous sponsor,  keep p2pnet online, and my family and I supplied with the necessities of life.

However, running p2pnet is hard work and I’m not getting any younger, and every now and then I ask myself why I do it. I’m not an entrepreneur and p2pnet isn’t a business venture. (If it was, I’d be in the wrong business. ;) )

But bottom line, I love communicating and I’m fascinated with the changes being wrought by P2P and the Net in the face of determined opposition from the dinosaurs who are grimly determined to hang on to the status quo, no matter what.

And at the same time, perhaps I’m helping to unspin some of the corporate drivel that’s accepted elsewhere as genuine information and news. :)

Anyhow, although my family and I are far from starving, we could very definitely use a bit of extra income and little while back I started running ads to famous companies and products such as Toshiba. I would’ve receive a commission if anyone had clicked to the advertiser’s site and bought something. But that didn’t happen and since there was no other form of remuneration, it quickly became clear all I was doing was giving them free advertising.

In addition, I twice tried textual ads — words with green underlines which produced little windows when the cursor hovered over them. But I didn’t like them. And nor did you guys.

BUT ……. I think I may have a way to bring in advertising income without having actual ad displays. This would also free up the columns on the left and right for other things – links, stats, and so on.

I’ll keep you posted on that and meanwhile, I also ran celebrity posts. The idea was to tempt new people to the site.

I all-but dropped these kinds of stories, but I’m bringing them back for the same reason — to possibly attract new visitors who are often exactly the kind of people targeted by the cartels.

Same as before, if you don’t like them, don’t read them. :)

Finally, I get up at around 3 am Pacific to catch some of the people logging on in the east,  and in Europe. But starting tomorrow, instead, I’m going to begin posting at around 5:00 – 5:30 am my time.

So Cheers! And thanks. And may the farce be with you. :)

All the best …

Jon Newton – p2pnet

    What about donations?

  2. Jon Says:

I put a donation button up in September. Since then I’ve received $145 CAD ($139.14 CAD, minus PayPal’s fee). :)

    Cheers!

You gotta do what you gotta do and I’m perfectly fine with that. I will always be a faithful reader and comment poster here at P2P regardless of any changes, good or bad, you decide to bring to the site. There aren’t many folks willing to do what you do with your amount of determination and devotion, all of which I think serves a very important purpose in an ever increasing world of greed, injustice and intemperance. Keep up the good work Jon, it is very much appreciated. :)

how much does advertising cost here?

  11. Curious Says:

OH ya try some funky ajax to have adds appear ad hteres some neat tooltip stuffs
    really snazzes up a site.

  12. Reader's Write Says:

Just wanted to let you know, due to your TekSavvy ad I have purchased their service. When I called them, they asked me how I found out about their service, I told them it was your website. It may not be much, but I hope it helps in some way.

  13. Reader's Write Says:

No mention of the lawsuits, but they must be taking a toll.

In keeping with this site’s theme, I suggest running ads for mod-chip vendors and smart-card merchants, or possibly even getting into that business as a sideline if it’s still legal in Canada. Selling them was legal in Canada for years – but not in the USA – which created a lucrative black market for Canadians selling this hardware cross-border to US customers.

Not much else p2p-related to advertise for, with most commercial p2p clients shutting down. Maybe run ads for Giganews.
