Who will be Obama’s CTO?

p2pnet news view | P2P | Politics:- There’s no question America looks like it’ll be an exciting and interesting place under Barack Obama.

But it’s starting to look a little scary for the online world.

Joe Biden is already cause for serious alarm, but now, will Google get an amazing foothold in the new White House?

And might RIAA boss Mitch Bainwol become Obama’s CTO?

It’s OK. Relax. We were just kidding about Bainwol. He voted for McCain, although you can bet he and other corporate entertainment cartel minions such as the MPAA’s Dan Glickman are sleeping outside Obama’s door, metaphorically speaking.

But could either Do No evil Google boss Eric Schmidt, who “conveniently endorsed Obama,” or another Google employee, Vint Cerf, be named? – wonders CNet News.

Or might it perhaps be ex-regulator Reed Hundt?

Actually, that probably wouldn’t be too bad. He advised Obama on technology and communications and is on the board of public interest group Public Knowledge.

Obama, meanwhile, wants the CTO to “ensure that our government and all its agencies have the right infrastructure, policies and services for the 21st century,” plus protecting the security of .gov computer networks, says CNet,continuing:

“On copyright, the conventional thinking is that Democrats are more likely to align themselves with the recording and movie industries’ wishes. That may not be the case here: it was John McCain who talked up more aggressive enforcement of copyright law domestically, while Obama said ‘we need to update and reform our copyright and patent systems to promote civic discourse, innovation, and investment while ensuring that intellectual property owners are fairly treated.’

“That is, of course, intentionally vague. Obama was also vague when we asked him whether he wants to amend the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to let Americans make a single backup copy of a DVD or computer game they legally purchase. He said only that he’d support it ‘in concept’.”

Internationally he wouldn’t, “take an obviously different approach than the policies that the Bush administration has followed and that a McCain administration would have,” says the story.

His web site says, “China fails to enforce U.S. copyrights and trademarks” and that additional international enforcement and standards are needed,” it notes.

The only people who are really important

Is an Obama presidency good, bad news for technology? – asks CNet.

It’s a given that every vested interest not only in America, but in the world, will be pleading for, and will ultimately be granted, audiences with Obama; and, that the only people who are really important — You and I — won’t get a look in.

Or will we?

The Net was largely responsible for taking Obama to the White House in the first place.

Without the help, and cash donations, from millions of online Americans, he might now be languishing in the shadows while McCain is feted as America’s newest savior.

The corporate movie and music industries have learned, very painfully, they can no longer treat their customers as criminals and thieves with zero rights.

The Net has given P2P People Power a voice, and a loud one.

And it seems Obama hears it.

Definitely stay tuned.

It’s funny how you think that his donations came from “P2P People”. Sure, i’m sure there are some people that donated that also use P2P software. However, to consider the majority of donators “P2P People”, is quite absurd, and in need of a fact-check.

    Based on what ?

The stock market is tanking. Obama is going to bring it back ! I don’t think so. He want to bring the capital gain taxes to 30% from 15%. Oh ! that’s going to help the stock market. Not. Ok, he didn’t create the mess, but he ain’t the one that’s going to solve it. Not with his ideas of how the world should be. In 4 years from now, the problem might even be worse.

And there’s a lot more problem I can foresee. So I’m sorry to burst your bubble, you might think the messiah is coming, but I am convince the honeymoon will be short live. Darker time are coming to the world.
