Craigslist changes sex ad rules

p2pnet news view | P2P:- Classifieds site Craigslist says it’s taking steps to, “prevent people from posting classified ads for prostitution and other illegal activities,” says the Los Angeles Times.

“It’s profoundly significant as a model to track down and crack down on illicit sex and other illegal activities,” the story has Connecticut attorney general Richard Blumenthal, “who has criticized the site for some of the ads it allows and spearheaded the deal,” declaring.

Under the agreement, struck with 40 states, “Craigslist will require users who post ads under ‘erotic services’ to provide a working phone number and pay a fee using a valid credit card,” says the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Craigslist will now, “be able to provide that information in response to law-enforcement subpoenas, creating a ‘roadmap’ that can be used to track prostitutes and sex traffickers,” says the Wall Street Journal, adding:

“San Francisco U.S. Attorney Joseph Russoniello said his office regularly sees Craigslist ads in cases it brings against human-trafficking rings that engage women in prostitution. Craigslist is ‘very important’ to the prostitution business, he said, both for prostitutes to find clients and ‘for pimps to recruit new members of the stable’.
