Blackberry, Treo vs iPhone

p2pnet news view | Mobiles:- Bad news for RIM’s Blackberry and Palm’s Treo.

“SquareTrade analyzed cell phone failure rates for more than 15,000 new phones covered by SquareTrade Care Plans and found iPhone handsets had substantially fewer failures than BlackBerry and Treo handsets within the first year of ownership,” says, Yup, Square Trade.

But, “The iPhone is prone to failure due to accidental damage, with 33% more failures reported in the first year,” it points out.

“Nearly one quarter of iPhone handsets are projected to fail due to an accident in the first two years of ownership.”

Touch-screen issues, “were the most frequently reported iPhone problem, accounting for nearly one-third of all reported malfunctions.”

Never mind, though.

Within the first year of ownership, iPhones had only a 5.6% malfunction rate, half that of the Blackberry and one-third the rate of the Treo, says the report, going on:

“The iPhone is projected to have a 9-11% malfunction rate in the first 2 years of ownership, compared to 14.3% for BlackBerry and 21% for Treo handsets.”

All percentages are too high for what these products cost. I can’t believe people buy them…

Ive got UTStarcom 6700 pocket pc and within two months the external speaker failed. They replaced the phone and have now had it for 2 years and the only problems have been program wise. Im always adding new programs and removing them so it gets buggy. The newer models have nothing really new too offer otherwise Id update. I would never get an iphone mainly cause I dont want nothing to do with itunes. I like having a windows mogile platform and can add hundreds of programs to it.

I can easily see how most failures of a phone is gonna be due to damage. They get droped and people will usually just have their phone in their purse or pocket instead of a case so it is even more pron to damage.
