Facebook message gets football star dumped

p2pnet news view | P2P:- A Facebook message posted by Texas Longhorns center Buck Burnette on election night resulted in him being kicked off the University of Texas football team.

“Burnette, a sophomore offensive lineman from Wimberley, was dismissed from the team Nov. 5 for posting a racially insensitive remark about President-elect Barack Obama,” says the Houston Chronicle.

“I told (our players) to be careful with Facebook and MySpace,” Texas coach Mack Brown is quoted as saying.

“Those things are really dangerous.”

Burnette had posted, ‘All the hunters gather up, we have a (slur) in the White House,’ in reference to Obama’s becoming the first African-American elected to the presidency,” says the story, going on:

He said the comment, “was a text message he received from a friend and that he exercised bad judgment posting it on his page. He later apologized in a written note that was read by Brown during a team meeting.”

“It’s a public right they have as students,” the story has Brown saying.

“We have told them that we would rather they not have them, and we’ve told them that they need to obviously not put anything on there that their mom wouldn’t want to see.”

Asked by the Chronicle if he was, “worried the racial slur could divide his team, Brown cut off the question,” saying, “Folks, I’m not going there at all,” he said. “I’m through.”

Adds ther story:

“That didn’t stop several high-profile Texas players from discussing the incident for the first time Monday.

” ‘That stuff will get you in trouble,’ said Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo, a senior from Lamar High School.” Add to Technorati Favorites

    where did the bill of rights go? where’s the right to freedom of speach? dead?

  3. lions2008 Says:

    Why would he even post somethinglike that on his page?

  4. an Arse Says:

    @Reader’s Write
    The right to freedom of speech doesn’t protect racism. Besides, some brainless redneck posted racial slur and got punished for it. After all the racial slur stated on public television throughout the election, someone finally is getting punished. Granted, the Bush administration said things that were much more sick and got away with it.

    I cannot say how right you are!!! These other people have failed to see your point. I am going to put a link on my blog back to you ok?
