No more dial-up for PEI

p2pnet news view Freedom | P2P:- The End is Nigh for Prince Edward Islanders who’ve had to make do with dial-up connections.

A high-speed internet service is on the way.

Premier Robert Ghiz says Aliant says is investing $8.2 million to extend broadband services to every community in Prince Edward Island; the establishment of a $1.0 million Joint Innovation Fund; and the renewal of the government’s telecommunications contract.

The agreement also allows for the renewal of the government’s telecommunications contract with Aliant, which includes local and long distance services, for a further five years, with a total cost-saving of $2.5 million over current rates, he says.

Over the next five years, Aliant and the provincial government will invest $500,000 each towards a new information technology innovation fund to promote and develop internet based applications and uses for Island businesses, adds a joint statement.

  2. Josh Says:

WTF? When the fuck is my dial-up gonna get upgraded?

  3. well now Says:

well its like this hy speed is ok if ya got the bucks comming in and ya can afford to pay but as slaow as dial up is if it were cheap enough for people to afford it like me for instance 7 or 8 dollars a month is enough for people to pay for dial up tax included and hy speed should never exceed 15 or 18 dollars tax included put that in ya priemers pipe and smoke it ..were not all getting govt salleries most of us are getting 8 dollars minimum wage an hour and if ya single like i am it dont go very far so how the hell can ya afford 30 dollars a mont for hy speed 70 a mont for satlite tv and then we only youse six or seven channels for 70 dollars a mont .then phone is anodder 100 bucks a month electricityis another hundred ..so the priemer may think hes doing us all a favour well think again mr priemer .i we were getting part of your sallery then we could afford to give up dial up but were nor so dont do us any favours unlees ya gona lower the cost of hygh speed so we people like me and others can atleast afford it ..and as far as im concerned we should never have to pay for inter net.

  4. duff Says:

from what I heard… it looks like not everyone will be covered… some nice propaganda again here from PEI government. And I would like to see what the price would be. Because with a $30/month for dial up I bet they’ll be charging a price as low as $55… Mark my word on that.

But that’s fine, we Islanders are kind enough to accept to be sc..wed. I am to tough here? give em one sec. I just received my Maritime Electric bill… oh yeah from last year the Kwh went up from 11 cents to 16 cents… almost 50% up…

We do suck to always keep our mouth shut.

So I do not really buy that new shit.
