Too-fat prisoner gets out of jail early
p2pnet news view | Off Topic:- Eat your veggies!
That’s the message from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) to fat Canadian criminals.
On second thoughts, though, maybe it’s not such a good idea.
Not from the perspective of fat Canadian criminals, anyway.
After being thrown into a Montreal jail on drug trafficking and conspiracy charges, Michel Lapointe was released early because he became too obese to fit into the furniture, says PETA, going on »»»
Lapointe’s lawyer argued that the prison’s mattresses, chairs, and benches were too small for a man of Lapointe’s size and therefore caused him to suffer unfairly. He pointed out that Lapointe increased in size from around 300 lbs. to more than 400 lbs. after his arrest, blaming the weight gain, in part, on the greasy prison diet. Well, we know of some prisons where this just isn’t a problem.
To try to prevent this from happening again, we’ve sent a letter to the head of the prison inviting him to switch the inmates to an all-vegetarian diet, which would vastly increase the chances of keeping the inmates lean, healthy, and safely behind bars.
The prison (and taxpayers), “could save money on meals and reduce inmates’ health care costs, and the public would sleep a little better knowing that criminals of all sizes are where they belong,” adds the post.
Yesterday, the Veggie group was in the news over its Save the Thanksgiving Turkey campaign.

If they switched them to vegies entirely, I bet the crime rate would go way down; prison would become cruel and unusual punishment.

Prisons, like many places run at the taxpayers’ expense, should be more accommodating to those of different sizes.
This isn’t about the fatness of the man, but about the poor quality of the furnishings.
Needless to say, PETA’s fatphobia is obvious, and their message has been invalidated as biased too long ago to count.
On the other hand, why the prison simply didn’t replace the furnishings/amenities, or make the man do without them, is a good question.

@Eric
Do think that taxpayers would give a damn about accommodating prisoners of different sizes? Most just want them to rot in jail and be forgotten. Granted, there is nothing wrong with leaving prisoners to rot in jail and be forgotten.
I like the idea of switching to vegies entirely. For one, it would cause prisoners to lack in protein to be able to benchpress excessively. Second, it would be cruel and unusual punishment. Lastly, because there would no longer be any fat asses being released from jail for being too fat.
The only draw back to the all vegie diet is that the jailers will have a much harder time preventing a skinny prisoner from escaping than from preventing a 400 lb prisoner that can barely fit through the jails sliding doors.

But we want them to be fat so when they run from the cops, they’re so much easier to catch!
