Not to mention otters, moose, beavers, muskrats, dogs, bears, cattle, insects, plus way too many breeds of waterfoul and other birds to list. Let's not forget the effluent from towns and cities big and small. I live downstream from two major cities and you can't eat the fish from the river due to the high mercury level. Lord only knows what others chemicals reside in them. Still, I've never gotten sick from drinking out of a fresh water stream in the backwoods of western Canada. Not sure I'd be willing to push my luck like that anywhere else in the world. Anyways, interesting article. Cool to see Canadian heroes Bob and Doug get a mention here at p2pnet. Hate to say it but if I had to choose between beer and water, it would be water. I've never really cared for beer even though I could get it for free growing up (my father worked at a brewery for about a decade).
