Intell recalls 915 P4 chipset
p2pnet.net News:- Chipzilla has found problems with its new 915 Pentium 4 chipset resulting in a recall notice to motherboard makers.
“Just after releasing its new Pentium 4 chipsets on June 21, Intel has notified motherboard makers that an ICH6 defect has been found on some boards and products should be recalled from the channel, according to sources at the makers,” says a DigitTimes story here.
“Shipments to the channel have already been suspended and all boards based on the 915 and 925 chipsets are being recalled,” it says. “The sources indicated that Intel has assured the motherboard makers that it will provide compensation for any losses.”
An “anomaly” in the manufacturing process affected a “limited number of chipsets”, says a Tom’s Hardware item here, quoting spokeswoman Christian Anderka as saying a piece of foil which should have been removed from the ICH6, but wasn’t takenout completely, “which could result in leakage current in the Real Time Clock circuit and potentially stop a motherboard from booting”.
