Do Not Call List: total waste of time

Canada’s Do-Not-Call list only went up today, and it’s considerably less than perfect.

The list was theoretically to have provided a little relief for people who resent being bugged by telemarketers, as the pests call themselves.

The National Do Not Call List that Bell Canada launched on September 30th is non other than flawed. 

My residential home phone number was registered with the National Do Not Call List Operator on the date of launch.  Subsequently, thirty days after registering my phone number on the DNCL, the telemarketing calls have not ended and amount up to four calls on any given day.

Telemarketers have sought a loop hole to the DNCL by means of claiming to be a research company conducting surveys.  These  calls have become increasingly difficult to report to the DNCL Operator, as the DNCL Operator exempts Research Company calls as being telemarketing calls.  In addition, consumers who do not subscribe to Bell Canada’s Call Display have no means of knowing the telephone number of the company calling to be able to register the company on the DNCL Operator’s website or by means of telephone.  All requests made to Telemarketers / Research Company calls to have my name and number removed from their calling list, proves to no avail and results only in my receiving further unwarranted calls.

As a result of the above process to register with the DNCL, I conclude that the DNCL Operator modify the rules in determining the difference between telemarketing calls and research companies conducting surveys. 

Both are one and the same. 

Generally speaking, the DNCL Operator has failed to protect me from unwarranted telemarketing  calls by providing too much leniency in allowing what telemarketers can and cannot do.  Having regard to the considerations set out above, an email was sent on November 12/08 to Stephen deRosenroll, Regulatory Affairs, Bell Canada. 

Mr. deRosenroll could only suggest that I contact Bell Canada and see what options they will provide to further assist in the cessation of these unwarranted calls, and apologized for not being able to be of further assistance as he is unaware of the services Bell Canada provides, further noting that his phone service is not with Bell Canada, in his telephone call of November 18/08.

Of course Call Privacy and Call Block offered by Bell Canada would be additional expenses to my monthly residential phone bill and not included free-of-charge as Primus Canada includes free-of-charge to its subscriber’s Telemarketing Guard which gives subscriber’s control above and beyond the Do-Not-Call List, including Call Privacy.

“Are Canadians really any further ahead with the launch of the Do-Not-Call List, especially where unwarranted telemarketing calls continue to be received even 30-days after registering with the DNCL Operator?” – DNCL Flawed asks, adding:

” The proverbial expression ‘between a rock and a hard place’, aptly describes my position with Bell Canada  and the DNCL Operator, especially when I receive little support from either.”

    people just don’t understand business and how it operates!

    The only way u’re going to get rid of them is if you start making it a binding verbal contract as you start conversation:
    1 The line must be clear so conversation may be recoded, if it’s not tell them to call from good line or f-off [u may tell them call is being recorded too as is your right but u don't need to till end of call, if at all]

    2 NEVER let them know your name unless they provide the following proof;
    - full name [not just first and some internal ID]
    - their FULL business address including postal code, their address of their workplace [these are different in many cases]
    - where they are calling from [china, india, pakistan, etc.] if not Canada hen tell them that they are being reported to CEO and charged with “Notice of Understanding and Intent”
    - their CEO’s full contact info [if they refuse tell them you are charging them 1,000 per hr, damages and or for fraud]

    3 if they ask for specific person tell them YOU are the Administrator of this account [without telling them your name, as is your right] this means they deal with you or not at all [Administrator of an account has higher rights than any judge] You are the judge for your account, if they want to pursue this they must get into court with judge and jury

    4 after you get their info, tell them to contact your by mail only and they are being charged for wasting yor time at 1,000 per hr and or any time you spend dealing with their case. If they piss you off actually charge them, their head office/CEO and sponsoring company by snail mail.

    5 If they try to sell stuff, cut them off and keep cutting them off till you get their info. At this point they are rude and dishonorable in front of any court and you can call them any names you wish

    6 Call their bluff on anything illegal they are doing. Be forceful, it’s your phone and account, not theirs!
    This works with collection agencies as well. The only option you give them is contacting you by registered mail or court order.

    I guarantee a dozen of these and your spam will drop by 90% if not fully. It might take a month or 2 till they get it through their thick skulls. I, friends and many I know have done this and they receive [at most] one spam per month
    Now copy and paste this and actually print it so you have it close to your phone as a guide

    You are still part of their system and to boot you have just been recorded in their database as a complainer, whiner, rebel causing dissent. Now they know who to go after later. You have also told them you need their services, as any good slave does.

    My way is as a Sovereign Human Being on Earth. This means you are smart educated sound Human Being, responsible for your actions and you’re Not going to have anyone else tell you what to do as is your right in Canada and on Earth. You are also telling them you are taking this to Common Laws and NOT business laws.

    Laws on Earth in specific order a set down by Creators:
    1> God / Gods / Universe
    2> Bill of rights, constitution, privacy laws etc.
    3> Common laws of the land
    4> business laws, also known as British Maritime laws [laws of the seas]

    I don’t see anywhere where business laws trump or are above Your Rightful Laws or Common Laws as decided by the humans [sovereign human beings]. They are actually at the bottom and that’s where they should stay! What’s maritime law doing on land anyway?

    And Class action suits are just that: you are telling them you are part of a “Class”. Which class?
    They [business and elite] take it as slave class. Unless you tell them specifically in Class Action Suit that you are a Sovereign Human Being on their elite level.
    What you want to do is force them into Common Law Courts [our Courts] not theirs. They will loose every time if you know your rights and laws.

    I have good luck with Primus’s call screening, but It works a bit too well because it thinks my 80 years old Grand Mother is a telemarketer :) false positive.

    There are alternatives out there, just got to look for it.

    I live in the US and I mostly get automated telemarketers. The few live ones often want to speak with my deceased grandparents. My grandfather died about 10 years ago and my grandmother a year ago. The live ones often apologize and offer to remove me from their calling list. Others are still obnoxious and don’t take no for an answer.
    If they don’t take me seriously, then I often let them take it up with my dog. He is a shetland sheepdog with a piercing bark, and I just hold the mouthpiece up to his face and ask him “who is it?” driving him into angry barking fits.
    After about ten seconds of this they often hang up while I continue laughing at them.

    Special interests have made loopholes for themselves in the US for the national do not call list, such as political calls. When you sign up, you’ve been nice enough to provide them with a phone number they don’t have to go find out about through sold lists.

    One of my real irks in all this, is you spend money for a private number. Yet those numbers can be gotten, even though they are not listed in the phone book. Most obviously, the phone company is making money on selling those private numbers. So paying for a private number is worthless and not worth the money at all. It’s a scam where the only thing you get for your extra money is that it is still available.

    The one thing they can not do is call you, if your phone is not plugged in. It’s a perfect filter that works 100% of the time. I don’t pay for phone service to provide an avenue for pests to bother me. I pay for a phone to use at my discretion. I don’t really need to supply yet another data base with my phone number to provide a contact where none is desired.

    The Best solution is to not answer these calls.
    turn off your answering machine and ignor all calls from numbers you do not recognize.
    this works really well.
    if you never answer they will stop calling and think there is no phone hooked up.
    another solution if you answer is to just keep hitting buttons as fast as you can and then stop and do nothing until they speak
    after they say something start hitting more buttons.

    or if you have a social cat in the house give him/her the call

    Oi, do I ever hate telemarketers. It’s gotten to the point that I don’t answer the phone anymore. Works alright with live callers, but not the automated dialers which are the primary pests unfortunately. They just keep on calling every single day regardless. It’s actually become as bad as e-mail spam. I’ve thought about getting a new private number but there are a couple of problems with that. Your still in the reverse directory, available at any library. Secondly the phone company recycles all phone numbers, so it is highly probable you’ll just get someones previously public number. Now you’ll get calls not just from telemarketers, but calls from the previous owners family and friends too. Like one of the above commenters said, private numbers are a scam being perpetrated by the phone company and a waste of money. Sigh…

    I’ve heard a lot of good things about Primus Home Phone, and the Telemarketing Guard and Call Privacy included free-of-charge, KChang. I just may look into this option. Thanks for the ‘heads up!’ :-)

    Hmmm pretty good comments, i just have a few questions:
    Why should anyone have to listen to a call coming in when it’s Spam?
    Why should PPL that work shift work or nights be woken up by 10 to 30 spam calls per day?
    Why should my peace and quiet be broken by their Spam?
    Why should i or anyone be badgered by some looser company that can’t make it on it’s respectful worth and reputation?
    Why should i or anyone become part of someone’s database [Primus or any other] to be tracked, bullied, abused and have my privacy broken under the laws of Canada?

    If you can’t answer all of these for the benefit of the phone owner then you need to stand up for your and our rights and quit being lazy. Because all you are doing is supporting the corporations like a good little slave … that’s right, i said SLAVE! Because that’s exactly what they think of you ass anytime you subscribe to their services.

    This is exactly the kind of thinking that lets corporations, banks and government take over your life, charge you up the wazoo, control you, make you poor … and then you’re happy to take it as a good little Slave.

    You keep this up and i guarantee your kinds won’t have any rights at all.

    May i remind you that if you follow the money to it’s origins both world wars, actually all wars, have been paid for by same elite bankers who own these spam businesses.
    Did you know that 40% of all Canadian businesses and corporations have been bought out by those same bankers who own spam companies?
    Did all those PPL die in those wars for nothing?
    So you and your kids can be controlled by bankers, corporations and spam companies?

    Thanks for your support of Veterans an all those who died so you can have a good life … fools!
