Michael Jackson vs The Sheik: case closed
p2pnet news view Music:- Michael Jackson won’t, after all, be travelling to London, England, to answer charges that he broke a music contract with an Arab sheik to the tune of US$7 million.
Lawyers for Sheikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, an amateur songwriter, said their client paid Jackson the $7M as an advance on a book and joint recording project with the sheikh, said The Star.
Jackson, however, said the money was a present.
The sheik, the second son of the king of Bahrain, “filed suit against Mr. Jackson seeking repayment for money he gave to Mr. Jackson beginning in 2005, including $2.2 million dollars to cover Mr. Jackson’s legal bills in a child-molestation trial in Los Angeles that year,” said the New York Times, going on:
“A lawyer for the sheik plans to play in court a song written by the sheik and recorded by Mr. Jackson as proof of their close collaboration.”
Jackson, who said he’d probably be too ill to show up at the UK High Court hearing and might instead tell his story by video, has apparently settled out of court.
“Jacko was apparently about to board a flight from LA to London when he heard the news,” says MTV.
“He cancelled the trip and will leave quite a few loyal fans disappointed that he’s not coming to Britain.”
