Manic Street Preachers Richey Edwards is dead

p2pnet news view Music:- Manic Street Preachers’ guitarist Richey Edwards has been declared officially dead.

He disappeared 13 years ago and, “While fans of the band – and the Manics themselves – have for years held out hope that the guitarist would return, it seems his family has moved on,” says The Guardian.

The move is said to be “hugely emotional” for the other three band members, James Dean Bradfield, Nicky Wire and Sean Moore, who, “still dedicate songs to Edwards hoping he might one day return,” says the Daily Mail, adding »»»

Described as a tortured genius, it is widely believed that Edwards, 27, took his life by jumping from the Severn Bridge although no body has ever been found.

He was last seen at 7am on February 1, 1995, in London’s Embassy Hotel as he prepared to fly to America for a tour.

After driving to his flat in Cardiff, where he left his passport, credit card and Prozac pills, he headed for the service station next to the old Severn Bridge. His car was found there 17 days later.

A missing person can be declared legally dead after seven years under UK law, “though Edwards’ parents had previously refused to take this option,”" says the NME.

In 1991 Richey, “gained notoriety following an argument with NME journalist Steve Lamacq, who questioned the band’s authenticity and values, keen to ensure the punk ethic was not abused, after a gig at the Norwich Arts Centre,” says the Wikipedia.

“Lamacql asked of Edwards’ seriousness towards his art, and Edwards responded by carving the words ‘4 Real’ into his forearm with a razor blade he was carrying. The injury required hospitalisation and seventeen stitches.”
