Wet Connexion
p2pnet.net News:- Boeing says this August, it’ll launch a sea trial of its Connexion high-speed WiFi service.
However, wet WiFi is already here. And its initial trials were highly successful.
Phillip Torrone went War Kayaking on Lake Union in Seattle, hunting for open wireless spots and, “found a ton, charted it with GPS, Wifi finders …”
Boeing, however, has something else mind.
Connexion was developed for in-flight WiFi with Lufthansa as the first commercial airline to use it.
The briny version is being developed with Canadian tanker fleet operator Teekay Shipping, based in Vancouver, British Columbia and is expected to provide 2.5 megabytes per second of data to the vessel and 256 kilobytes per second from the vessel,” states a Puget Sound Business Journal story here, adding:
“The maritime version uses the same satellite and ground-based network Connexion by Boeing established for its in-flight service.”
